Moving to a new PC (plus a forum issue)

Postby omega13lives » Tue Nov 11, 2025 9:34 am

I'm not really a newbie but didn't know exactly where to post. I'm moving to a new PC and I have Newsbin installed on a second drive (G:) which I will be putting in the new machine. Should I tell Win11 to (re)install NB in that directory to retain any settings or do I just need to save/load the current .nbi file when it's installed?

Also, every single time I log into this forum lately it tells me I've exceeded the maximum tries and I have to answer a question. Is there something I need to clear? Thanks.

I've just got a new mini computer and moved from a large desktop tower computer.

If you open newsbin on your original setup and go to settings and open Data Folder, leave it open then close Newsbin down. Then from the data folder, copy the Newsbin.nbi and workspace.xml files and paste them into a new folder called Newsbin backup or something and keep it somewhere safe. You also need to make sure you have a copy of your registration key and user name and also your news providers details, login address etc.

When I run up my new machine I installed a fresh Newsbin Pro and after going through the setup procedure and running up newsbin for the first time, went to settings - open data folder - close Newsbin down - then copied the backup newsbin.nbi and workspace.xml files into the open Data folder save and close.

When I started Newsbin for the first time the improvement in my download speed was phenominal - my old setup must have got corrupted and was really slow. I think it was something to do with the unraring of downloads.

As for the forum login I have the same problem - somedays it takes a couple of days before I get to login and I get the same message about too many logins.

HTH.

The forum is under constant attack from AI scanners. It's enough to run the database out of connections and/or run over the connection limit. We're not really sure how to prevent it.
