Can't seem to get Watch Topic w/ Filter to work

Postby astrax » Tue Aug 22, 2023 2:46 pm

I'm trying to get a watch topic set up, that shows only posts by a certain poster. I have done this the same way before with other posters, and it works.

The poster's name/email is similar to this <downloadthis> (which is the display name). And the email is similar to this 123ab.345cd.456de.xyz@gmail.com
*edit
I tried entering the name/email in the -"from poster" of the watch topic itself, but that didn't work either. Therefore the version using a filter.

I set up a watch topic, with a filter like this (using parts of the email and the name as a "accept if poster contains" filter):

But what I get as results looks like these posters, with addresses that have nothing to do with the search terms set in the filter.

What am I doing wrong and which approach would be better?

I think I got distracted when I was looking at this.

I'll check it in the morning.

I use filter profiles for filtering like this. So I can have multiple emails in there if I want.

Yes I dropped the ball...again.

I created a new watch list. Local meaning downloaded headers. I added a filter profile that had a couple posters and left everything else alone.

Then I did a "Rescan" to scan my existing group. I set it to scan 3000 days worth of headers. When it was done 1000 matches were added to the watch list. Essentially it's the same setup you're showing here.

Then I cleared everything, the watch topic and the group in the "spool_v6" folder. Then I re-downloaded headers and when it was all done, I had matching results in my watch list.

If you load the group, then apply the filter profile, does it show you the hits you want to see? I suspect the problem is in how the poster is being added to the filter profile.

I might generate a new filter profile and only add the "poster accept" for one poster to it. Then try both a rescan and try loading the group and applying the filter to see if that one poster shows up. If that works, I might try adding some more posters till it stops working. I use simply posters like only a part of the email. Then I don't run into RE escaping issues.

Sorry, I didn't get back to this earlier. I still need to try this out. Thank you so far!
