Ask Quade... section of forum including a few others

Postby Stan » Thu May 25, 2023 9:33 am

They show, and I have seen the highlight that new posts are entered but as long I have been here if I click on certain sections like that as well as a few others I get NO permission even to view.
(You do not have the required permissions to read topics within this forum.)
So how are others not only reading but posting??

You have to be logged into your account to get into some forum topics. I wouldn't mind removing that requirement these days but I'm not sure exactly how yet. I'll ask Dex.

Trust me I am always logged in, I learned the trick of checking Log me on automatically each visit, and it only does it for a few forum topics I can read all the others and even post fine here.
This option almost has to be used as if you get logged out you get at least 1 or more errors logging back in.

In fact now I went a step further you don't even see those if logged out, and when logged back in they show but when clicked on the message comes up (You do not have the required permissions to read topics within this forum.)

I could be mistaken because it's been many years since I worked behind the scenes on phpbb forums, but it seems like an account permission setting is possibly set wrong.

I am also going to try Firefox, when I get time, as it's different from Edge and most chrome based browsers as when I log out the forum changes its look as well.

Ok, looks like you can forget the color changes I forgot about the setting : My board style:

But no other settings on my end that I see to fix the original issue.

What sections to you think you're not seeing?

When I'm logged in, I see 27 items in "Board Index" some with locks which I believe just means they're "read only"/

I see the sections when logged in, but again when I click on the one like the Ask Quade section I get 'You do not have the required permissions to read topics within this forum.'

From the way I understood your reply, you said I need to be logged in to read the sections, but I am logged when this happens.

I wanted to go further hoping I could explain it better cause you said I need to be logged in, and when I log out I don't see them at all, which shows I am logged in when I get the permission error.

I guess I thought it would be an easy thing to explain and see what the issue is.
It's been going for as long as I remember, and I just thought those sections were not used, which is why I did not say anything sooner.
But now it shows there are new posts, but none can be read because of the permission error.

If it can't be fixed or too complicated, then, best to leave it be. I can just keep ignoring when it shows new posts for those sections.

I think you might have opened up a can of worms now. :D :D When I'm logged in, I only see 20 topics/sections in the Board Index.
