Search feature help

Postby Bobsen » Sat Apr 03, 2021 1:46 am

Hi,
I have been using newsbin for years with the auto payments from paypal for years. I have also been using Giganews with the paypal option as well. Recently, Giganews dropped paypal as an payment option and my "automatic" search renewal (via paypal) from newsbin is due to expire 5 April. For some reason I cannot access my paypal account to cancel the search renewal, can you manually cancel my account?
Thanks in advance...

We aren't accepting PayPal anymore either. All current PayPal subscriptions expire at the end of their current subscription period. Yours is good through April 15, 2021 since our system pushes the end date whenever PayPal fails to renew. It tries 3 times and then it expires so you received a few free days of search our of this. If you want to start your subscription up again we still support recurring subscriptions using a credit card on our website.

I am very unhappy with your response to this PayPal issue. I do not want my credit card info further exposed on the internet. Why should I trust that you can protect this information on your site with all the web site hacking going on currently. This would also be another place that I have to remember to update every time my credit card renews with a new expiration date. You need to come up with a better solution which does NOT require me to compromise my credit card info further. You have not explained why PayPal has declined supporting your site. This makes me more hesitant to trust my credit card to you. I have been a search customer since 2009. Until you come up with a solution that does not require a credit card, you should do the right thing and extend subscriptions at no cost to long time customers. If you can't make up with PayPal then maybe you should try Amazon Pay.

It's not as if we had a choice. One day a couple months ago Paypal said they weren't going to handle transactions for us anymore. I believe they dropped some of the news servers at the same time.

Paypal dropped us for ideological reasons. They don't like Newsbin and news servers in general because it's possible to download porn from news servers. Paypal won't offer any payment processing for anything porn related. The only surprising thing is that they processed our payments for as long as they did. Probably because Dex and I made an effort not to mention any content here and on the main website. It's not like you can talk to a human at Paypal and ask why.

you should do the right thing and extend subscriptions at no cost to long time customers. If you can't make up with PayPal then maybe you should try Amazon Pay.

I'm not seeing how Paypal dropping us, something completely out of our control, means we owe you free service. I do agree that looking to alternates is a good idea.

I use a dedicated Internet credit card which I only use for internet things. In that way, if it gets cracked, which has happens 2-3 times already. It doesn't impact my ability to buy gas or food. I just cancel it and get them to issue me a new one.

So... You want me to get another dedicated credit card just to use your services??? Huge hassle! I use PayPal for my News Server subscription as well as other periodic payments with no problems. You have no history on the security in place to protect my credit card and frankly with all the Web site hacks and credential theft going on, I do not trust sites such as yours with my credit card information and it is unreasonable on your part to expect me to. You say it isn't your fault that PayPal dropped you. Well it certainly isn't mine. You have known about this for quite some time and you should have found a reasonable alternative by now, so it is your fault. It is not right that you toss away a 12 year customer because you can't figure this out. This is the way you treat customer loyalty? I don't know why anyone would be foolish enough to subscribe to a subscription without the protection of a service like PayPal. Your reference to porn is lame and insulting. Are you saying that the only use for your service is to download porn?

A possible work around.

I use paypal to buy books from an internet author whose work I like and who sells his books on amazon, which I don't use. I just send a payment to his paypal email account with a note asking for his latest book. Easy to do.

If Dex or Quade set up a new paypal account with a different dedicated email address, people would be able to send the money that way with the relevant details in an accompanying note. May work for a while before paypal catches on.

If using a credit card is not an option, you can go through our distributor, MyCommerce.com and purchase a new key to Newsbin which includes 1 year of the Search function. Leave a note in the "Notes to Author" section and give me your current key and tell me what tier of the Search service you'd like and I'll apply the $30 towards Search against your existing key. MyCommerce.com has many payment options, including PayPal. To do this, follow the "Buy Now" link on this page: http://www.newsbinpro.com/buy-newsbin.htm. - this is a manual process so it may take up to 24 hours before your Search functionality will be activated.

Not quite sure of the process here. If I purchase a new key at $30, I get 1 year of standard search which is the same price I would pay for 1 year with the subscription but without the auto-renew which I find preferable. When I get the new key, couldn't I just replace my current key ? Would that not automatically give me a year of search?

Tell me your key when you place the order and I will apply the one year non-renewing Search subscrition to your existing key.

For what it's worth, I use Skrill for all online credit card payments, they give you a free pay-as-you-go Mastercard number, they do charge a 1% fee if you wish to pay in to your Skrill account card balance from another card (for instance if you wish to top up your card from your banks credit card), but 1% is a very cheap fee and it is free if topping up via your bank. I have made 2 payments to sites today via it. If it ever gets compromised the hacker gets virtually nothing as I only top up enough to cover each months small outgoings. If you want to remain incognito I have also found you can use any name or address on websites when making payments via the Skrill mastercard and they seem to go through okay, thus far at least, it might depend on payment provider the website uses though.

Hello,

This is the second year in a row I don't get notification e-mails that my search subscription will expire.

I'm now between subscriptions and having to wait for the new key to process as per your notes in an earlier post in this thread.

I would really like this notification to activate moving forward.

Anything I need to set in my configuration for this?

Furthermore, your re-seller program (http://www.newsbinpro.com/buy-newsbin.htm) that previously accepted Paypal as I read in a previous post in this thread, no longer shows Paypal as a payment option.

If I have to interpret this is that Paypal has continued to block payments to your services unfortunately.

Is this accurate?

Is there no other way than to share my CC information directly with you to get a search subscription?

Paypal has blocked us and there's almost no chance they'll process our payments anymore.

What can we say? Paypal is now the morality police.

I'll have to ask Dex if there are other resellers out there.

Is this method still viable?
