Make Newsbin work faster

Postby lyles43 » Thu Jun 20, 2019 12:13 pm

After I do a Download the latest Group Updates, I find the Cache Chunk use State shows something like 200/200 (280). The import folder contains 277 files. Task manager shows Newsbin using very little cpu , about 25% of ram, and small amount of disk activity. No other applications are running on Win 10. It seems to take forever to process the downloaded files. How can I tell Newsbin it is OK to use more resources to finish the job sooner?

280 blocks of headers is a bunch of headers to process. Are you just updating the groups or forcing Newsbin to download all or many headers? Some groups just don't work for headers anymore. If you load up individual groups and only see a bunch of random 750K posts instead of files, you might want to drop that group.

I just click on the double arrow in the upper left corner. A couple of the groups are very large and active.

Confusing side effects: If I start Outlook, it seems to run slow. Newsbin has disappeared from Task Manager. If I close Newsbin, Outlook works fine. When I restart Newsbin, it reappears in Task Manager with slightly cpu and disk higher utilization. The number of files in the Import directory is slowly decreasing.
