Pics sit in the d/l queue but don't d/l

Postby dane » Wed May 16, 2018 11:22 am

Hi

I'm having a weird problem - using 6.80 build 5058 on a 64-bit windows 10 machine. If I'm try to d/l a block of pics from a newsgroup - say a.b.automobile.pictures - some, or all, of them may just stall in the queue showing no movement or network activity. If I delete them and try again to d/l, sometimes a few will but mostly not.

However, if I send them to the wish list, and then d/l them from there, they d/l quickly and completely. I've tried changing servers, reloading nb and adjusting network settings, but the only thing that seems to help is the wish list.

Any ideas?

There's a couple other reports of this. Dex and I are puzzled by this but trying to figure out what's going on.

I suspect a timing problem like when you add the file to the download list, they're not quite in the DB yet when the download code needs it. That would explain why a trip to the the list makes it work.

Might mean we'll need to do a 6.81 which isn't really that unusual. The odd versions seem to work better than the even.

Funny you should say timing - and that the file might not yet be in the db. I'm also finding that after I've loaded headers and chosen a group and clicked on "show posts" things behave as normal: the tab displays, the progress bar moves across the bottom of the window, the number of posts on the tab changes from 0 to the number of posts, and then after a little bit, the progress bar moves across the bottom of the window again, and the number in the tab increases.

In a group with a large number of posts to download, this can go on for some time.

For what it's worth: retreated to rc 7 - no change. Then to rc3 (next one I had) - d/ls smooth as silk. Change somewhere in there has caused the problem.

Actually 6.80 RC3 Build 5035.

If you can point me towards rc 4,5 & 6 I'd be willing to see if I can narrow it down to the specific one where the change occurred.

Just wanted to add that I'm also having the issue with adding a block. If I remove from dl list and do them individually - either by double clicking each one or by holding enter down the list - then they download fine.

Hi Folks - I'm now using newsbin (64-bit) 6.81B2 - Build 5065 and it seems to be working smoothly. Give it a try; or try 6.81B3 which came out last week.
