More details about an installation error

Postby bubble8 » Fri Aug 26, 2016 4:23 am

Hi !
A month ago I posted a message regarding a major installation error and I got no answer.
This time I add some additional screenshot, I hope that they contain relevant details.
Thanks !! Bye !

Hi ! I'm an Astraweb plan subscriber and I have downloaded http://www.newsbin.com/downloads/distri ... nstall.exe. I'm trying to install it on a PC running Windows Xp, no firewall, Avast shield disabled during installation. Nevertheless, the only result I get is this error message: "Internet connetivity is required for the this installer to download the last program executables". How can I fix it ? Thanks in advance for your replies!

Looks like you have a couple issues.

1 - Connectivity for the installer.

2 - Write permissions into "Program Files".

Have you disabled UAC? The installer needs to "Run as Administrator" in order to be able to write to certain folders. It looks like it can't write to "program files" which implies the installer isn't as "Administrator" level.

Sorry, I missed your first post.

I suggest running the full installer that does not require Internet access. Still, you might have the same problem writing to the Program Files folder as Quade pointed out. The full installer will not pre-configure for Astraweb but you can still specify the Astraweb server address and login info during the installation. Be sure to use ssl.astraweb.com if you plan to enable SSL. Otherwise use news.astraweb.com.

The link to the full installer is http://www.newsbin.com/downloads/nb672-full.exe

Thanks for your reply !!

It works well and, by means of the full installer, I have successfully completed the installation.
But still there exists problem:
1) the program is unregistered
2) on http://www.news.astraweb.com I see "Free Key for Astraweb Customers" but the corresponding link points to only the pre-configured installer.
How can I get the registration code ?
Should I contact the astraweb's staff or ask here ?

Thanks again !

If you want a free Astraweb key, you will need to fix your system so you can run the Astraweb installer.

Alternatively, you can request a free trial key and use that to register Newsbin. It's good for 15 days and gives you full access to the Usenet Search feature. After 15 days, you can get a free lifetime key if you sign up for any tier of our search service.
