Version 6.62RC2 Stops Downloading

Postby Sandman » Sun Dec 13, 2015 11:50 am

Newsbin stops downloading and gets hung, won't do anything, when a file is missing parts. Also it won't repair a download but it will download every single PAR for it despite maybe needing 1 part to repair. When it tries to repair the file, it goes through the process but fails to repair it so it tries to repair it again and just get stuck in some sort of loop.

Lastly, why does it stop downloading to extract a file?

You know 6.62 is released already right? I'd give it a try.

Are the PAR files landing with random filenames?

I have tried the official 6.62 and I get the same behavior. I have also tried a "clean install".

When it tries to repair the file, it cycles though "Par Repair 0 to 100 %" rapidly several times then just quits. After that, it downloads another Par set and then tries to repair again with the same behavior. Eventually, every Par set is downloaded and it just keeps going through a loop. All the while, the download is stopped on the other items in my list.

This is after it has cycled through a Par Repair:

After repair, try to unrar files with Newsbin and it does nothing. I have to use Winrar to do it

The reason I asked about random par filenames is that seems to be a new thing these days. 6.62 doesn't support them but a new test version does. It's pointless to try the test version though unless the PAR filenames really are random.

When will you release the version that does? Right now, a lot of files I am pulling have these random generated characters. Then they misname the file, purposely, with random generated characters on top of that.

Currently, Newsbin will fix the misnamed files but won't repair the archive after that. It will try and fail every time and in process download every PAR file associated with the archives, wasting bandwidth and time. This is a major pain in the ass when you have several files this way. I have to baby sit every damn file like this with Newsbin. :( To me, this should be a non-issue period. Also even if I fix the archive with Multipar, Newsbin will not extract it even when I tell it to. It usually says that there is "no such filename" or something along those lines or it won't say anything at all. I have to use a separate program to extract the file every time.

Lastly, while it is having these issues with the file names and repair, my downloads in my list have stopped. I had several queued and left it on all night thinking it would be completed the next day and Newsbin got stuck on the first file. It didn't bother trying to grab the others at all. Why it must stop a download to repair is crazy if you ask me. Both should work in parallel.

You can try this one. It might never get released officially. I've already moved beyond it but it does handle random PAR filenames.

After downloading several files with random names, I had zero to fail. Thanks to Quade for sharing this pre-release version.

On another note, is there any chance Autopar will have GPU support? I have been using Multipar with that enabled it it repairs much faster.

I'm having the same issue. I have to close the app and then start it again and it resumes downloading.
