Please allow users to keep previous setups

Seems every time you update I have to change my layout. Is there a way for you to update the program and keep my GUI intact????????????
This is a huge issue for me and makes me never want to update.
Just when I get everything the way I like it I have to start all over again with my GUI.
Maybe I am doing something wrong but it is really frustrating and I really hate it.
I want EVERYTHING in the way I interact with the program to remain the same.
I don't want to basically have to reformat my GUI with every update.
Please let me know what I am doing wrong while I look for a restore point.

Are you reinstalling from scratch or just installing over the top of the old version?
