The question is what is it doing?

If it's importing headers then this is 100% normal. It might be updating some indexes in the DB files. If it never goes away it might indicate a stuck thread. If it's just doing something in the background. I'm not sure I see a problem.

50.000 + from the previous setup appear and newsbin was nearly unresponsive, succeed ton delete after a long wait, but some headers appear after and newsbin is already stuck and the log doesn't seem to say anything

Do you use "NZB Autoload"? Last couple people with issues like this were using "NZB Autoload" but they pointed it to a busy folder so Newsbin had to go through many files looking for NZB's.

No nzb autoload, but 6.6x seems to use more ressource than 6.56
