Selecting files causes highlighting to go nuts

I'm confused. Why can't I drag select like I always have been? This has completely broken my workflow.

I'm probably turning it back on. It was an experiment and in this case probably a failed experiment. It you shrink the columns to give some white space on the right you can drag select from the right till it's turned back on. You just have to start from the blank column.

When I get this problem and it sticks while downward or upward dragging, I sometimes am able to defeat by right clicking on the highlighted area and then left clicking again in the previously highlighted area. That works about 80% of the time the other 20% of the time I just switch to the keyboard method when it doesn't want to go away. I'm using win 7 64bit with a logitech mouse, if anything I'd blame logitech first
