Version 6.60 Beta 8 Available...

Postby dexter » Wed Mar 25, 2015 1:41 pm

Lots of changes in this release.

The big news is that Watch Lists can now be configured to use our Usenet Search database. It requires a subscription to our Internet Search service. Documentation walking you through setting up a Watch has been started on this Newsbin Watch Lists Page.

Other than that, a number of bugs have been squashed as well as some performance improvements dealing with large lists. Here is a partial list of the changes:

  • Fixed issue with AutoPAR setting not being honored "Use internal RAR timestamps"
  • Servers in server list can be collapsed or expanded to see individual connections
  • Show Filenames has been hooked up.
  • Fixed crash bug if you select and delete an expanded set.
  • Fixed issue where Ctrl-R was leaving the items in the post lists checked.
  • Fixed issue where files that used to be in the download list caused the display to show "checked" in post list.
  • Fixed issue where ctrl-y (force download) isn't working when queuing from the failed list.
  • Fixed issue showing size of selected items in the wish list.
  • Fixed Download List order problem. Displayed order wasn't the same as internal order.
  • Changes to improve rendering speed of items in the lists.
  • Fixed issue where clicking Properties from right-click menu on watch parent wasn't bringing up options
  • Fixed issue where group filters in Search could get cleared from the keyboard without clearing the filter internally.
  • Fixed issue where an expanded set that gets sent to the failed list wasn't compacted first.
  • Fixed issue where timestamps of an expanded set were not being correct if the file was paused.
  • Fixed progress display on header downloads, wasn't accurate.
  • Experimental: From Search, now uses your seach term in the same places the NZB Filename would be used. For example the $(NZBFILE) path variable.
  • Fixed issue where you would lose files is you queued a bunch of them (> one screen full) from the failed or wish list into the download list.
  • Fixed issue renaming files from the files list.
  • Fixed issue with Mark New
  • Fixed sort on Status column in Post list.
  • Fixed issue converting a test download to a real download.
  • Fixed issue where single file RARS with a PARID wouldn't leave the download list.
  • Fixed issue where deleting from the download list wasn't deleting partial downloads.
  • Changes in AutoPAR to make sure files from all folders are copied back into the folder the PAR files are in.
  • Disabled Downloaded.db3 checking upon startup. It was taking too long for people with large download lists. It is a tradeoff, might be temporary.
  • Fixed issue in Add Filters screen where deleting a block of filters wasn't clearing selection
  • Added a delete option to the filter right click menu.
  • Fixed issue when posting groups of files, the file counter wasn't counting up.
  • Fixed issue with Parless QPMS (QuickPar-MasterSplitter) files not assembling.
  • Make sure RAR and MasterSplitter sets that do not have associated PAR files get deleted after processing.
  • Changed Show Filename Mode in the download list to show the NZB Filename and actual filename.
The download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page Click on the "Changes in this Version" tab to see the full list of changes or refer to the release notes that are available from the installer if you check the "Show Release Notes" box on the last screen.

NOTE: The Download List is incompatible with anything prior to 6.60! We recommend you finish any queued downloads before installing this beta. This applies to the Wish List and Failed Files list too.

You can either reply to this thread or send us a message through our Technical Support Form with any questions or issues.

1 - First time through, watches only pull from the past 14 days. If you want more you'll have to do a manual scan.

2 - Subsequent automatic searches only search since the last search time + 24 hours. So, watch searches are always time limited. The only downside of the overlap is if you delete stuff that's within the current day range it might come back.

Observations using B8 Build3906:

1. Compacted posts when expanded and 'select all' + DEL applied now does not crash NB!
2. Thanks for the expandable server list in the server TAB and one click enable/disable, very useful!
3. Mark Posts New seems to be sticking after you quit/reload NB!
4. Still seeing a duplicate entry in the download list when parts of a post are missing from all servers.
5. Still seeing post list not updating status when a post has downloaded or removed from the download list.

Still need to post something so I can see if the post shows a genuine complete status or changes to incomplete when expanded!

Beta 8

Having problems with test download. Examples:
100% 193 of 195 1 file 0 pars (showed 2 red blocks)
100% 2959 of 2971 190 files 24 pars (showed a number of red blocks - did a retry download and hoped for the best)
sometimes percentage says 0% but shows something like 74 of 74 or 0 of 30

beta 8

Add posts to download list. Upon downloading, sometimes posts with missing parts will duplicate themselves and add themselves to the bottom of the download list (some single file posts reappear as multiple part files!).

It's probably an integer range issue. Meaning it got rounded up to 100%

I wrote a note to think about it. Probably if anything is wrong it should be range limited down to 99%.

Nice, though incomplete since it always sort by the full header even with that on.
All earlier versions sort by filename when Show Filenames is enabled, which is handy when people have included variable crap before the name.

Remaining items on MY list of things I used to be do at least now and then in 6.5x but isn't possible in 6.6 (yet?):
  • Sort posts by filename in group (see above)
  • Sort posts in group by status - single-part 100+ MB post seem to have at least a 99% chance of being spam or not belong in that specific newsgroups, this is useful especially after I've already selected the obvious things via regexp's. That means I don't want to just globally filter them out even if that was possible...
  • Sort download list by Path/Size
This is not a complaint really, but I also guess it's useful for you to know what features people are missing in 6.6 compared to 6.5x. Even combined my list isn't enough to send me back onto the 6.5x series, there's a number of things I like with 6.6 too.

I can't be sure if the post is complete/repairable so I'll stick to 6.56RC1 for now since its try download works (it's its ctrl-r that is flaky)

The information still seems to be there, I'm not getting why you want to revert. You can still look at the information and tell whether the file is mostly there or not. It's the % that looks like it's off slightly.

100% 193 of 195 1 file 0 pars (showed 2 red blocks)
100% 2959 of 2971 190 files 24 pars (showed a number of red blocks - did a retry download and hoped for the best)

2859/100 = 29.59 The means if you lost 29 chunks you're be at 99%. In the second one you're missing about 12 chunks. That means you're missing less than 1%. Fixed it would still show 99%. If you have PAR files both of these files should be repairable. If you don't have PAR files, you won't get a good download. Files might still function somewhat but they won't be 100%.

I read deeper and maybe your real issue is not these but ones that show no status update?

I'm back....

I know I've been a pain with my unique UPPER CASE problem but I find B8 MUCH better than previous.

Although it's early, for me, it seems the Download List is sensitive to rearrangement of the initial order of files loaded, especially any files brought to the top (above files initially loaded) from a refresh of headers. It's strange how, all of a sudden, empty UPPER CASE Rars begin to appear. So, I shutdown Newsbin, delete the UPPER CASE Rars, and restart Newsbin, finding everything is fine again.

A note to a previous remark about Newsbin beginning to re-download the same files:
After a restart. I have found this to be the case with files w/a large number of segments. My "Band-aid" solution was to shut off Auto-Par, pause the entire download, expand the file (+ sign) to view the segments, pause individual segments already downloaded, unpause the entire D/L to begin downloading, then run Par/UnRar outside of Newsbin.

Agree. If single file (like one rar with no pars) then it helps to do another retry download on another single file.

As stated in previous posts I do not use the default paths for "Data Folder" or the "Program."

For the "Data Folder" I use: G:\Newsbin
For the "Program" I use: G:\Program Files\Newsbin

I was looking in the default folder and found one piece of the configuration not moving to my preferred "Data Folder":

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator1\Local Settings\Application Data\Newsbin\GuiItems.db3

The "GuiItems.db3" in "G:\Newsbin" does not update, only the file on Drive "C" updates.

Could this be part of my problem?

Just to clarify, the only file in the default location is "GuiItems.db3."

I doubt it. I don't run from any of the default folders either.

The symptoms, files are upper case, mean that for some reason Newsbin is assembling incomplete files. It knows they're incomplete.

I might disable all servers except the primary and try some downloading.

I do have the EU server as 2nd priority, but only five channels. Although I cannot be certain, I haven't seen the color code for the second server show up in the D/L List.

As to Newsbin "knowing" they are incomplete: why does deleting all D/Led upper case files and restarting help Newsbin discover the file are complete?

That just starts the download over again. Newsbin knows a file is incomplete because when it tries to assemble, chunks are missing. Because of padding though, it looks to be full length. Newsbin is telling you that the files are incomplete by making them upper case. Something is causing the files to assemble early. You then delete the bad files and restart the download. This time they download properly.

Something about how you download is triggering an early assembly. It's not happening to me. It doesn't seem to be a common problem at all. So, the question is, why does this happen to you and not to me? I honestly don't know. Assembly doesn't happen as long as retries remain which suggests you're running out of retries. You have high retry counts so that doesn't seem likely.

It's almost as if something is triggering the "Assemble Incompletes" command from the menu. Do you have any custom shortcuts?

I hope you correct the path for the above file. I wouldn't mind leaving the individual configuration files in the default folder on Drive "C", but, because of size, I'd prefer the folders be somewhere else - especially the SPOOL folder.

Again, my Data Folder, under Options is specified correctly as G:\Newsbin, but GuiItems.db3 is locked in "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator1\Local Settings\Application Data\Newsbin\GuiItems.db3". In fact, it is the only file there. The GuiItems.db3 in C:\Newsbin does not update.

I mentioned this in Beta 7: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=37867#p208401

I've also not yet seen NB showing complete posts that show incomplete when expanding them, noticed this on posts I had uploaded in Beta 7, but in Beta 8 after a dozen or so posts I've made they all show genuine complete status so this issue may have been transient as I started on Beta 7 and installed over 6.56.

For instance right now all my "download headers" is sitting there in the downloading files tab.

This is happening alot.

Anyone else seeing this ?

I'm not. How many servers are you downloading headers from? There is a bug in B8 when a server returns a "group is empty" response. The download list items stays in the download list. If you have a server that returns that for most groups, that would explain this. Had a guy the other day. One good server one shitty ISP server. The ISP server was returning "group empty" on most groups. He just turned off header downloads for the crappy server.

Are you sure there aren't any server errors?

Just tried 6.60B8 (win7/x64) and it seems that the update from 6.56 reverted my custom font sizes back to default.

So I tried the options -> colour/fonts -> set font to increase the size from 8 to 10 using Tahoma.

The post list changed okay, but the groups list remained unchanged at 8.

Happened again and I checked the logging.

There is nothing in there about ISP issues.

I have kept it but don't want to publish it here.

Exit NB and start it back up and it downloads again without issue.
