Version 6.60 Beta 4 Available...

Postby dexter » Thu Feb 05, 2015 1:20 am

Things are stabilizing. Beta 4 is the next iteration.

Summary of fixes:

  • Fixed issue where not all files deleted after unrar were removed from the files list.
  • Fixed Local Search
  • Fixed issue where Local and Global filters weren't operating on meta files.
  • Now splits meta files (.nfo, .sfv) out of compacted sets before sending them to the download list.
  • Fixed NBRemote interface. Should mostly work now.
  • Made changes to speed up deletions from the lists
  • Fixed focus issue in the lists.
  • Fixed issue where manual unrar wouldn't unrar to the specified folder
  • Changes to make sure password dialog pops up if a password is needed for unrar that doesn't already exist in the password list.

More info and download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page

NOTE: The Download List is incompatible with anything prior to 6.60! We recommend you finish any queued downloads before installing this beta. This applies to the Wish List and Failed Files list too.

You can either reply to this thread or send us a message through our Technical Support Form with any questions or issues.

+1

also I dont know what youve done Quade but the issue regarding "stalling" has disappeared : Downloads are buttery again :)

When testing downloads the status column always says 100% complete.

I've had my fingers crossed that hoping that the ability to sort the status column might return with the installation of Version 6.60 B4, but find that the ability to sort all columns (Subject, Status, Size, Poster, Group) has been lost. Or have I overlooked something?

The inability to sort the columns really hinders the use of Newsbin. At least for someone like me.

I found my old rabbit's foot (from the 50s) in a box in the garage, and have placed it atop my computer case hoping that will help bring back the ability to sort columns. Is it working?

Here's what was happening.

1 - You download from the server and occasionally chunks fail

2 - Newsbin was sticking the failing chunks at the front of the failed list.

3 - New files would download, their chunks would fail and they'd get placed in the front of the list pushing the older failed chunks farther down the list.

What this means is that files later in the listing would get their failed chunks processed before the older chunks that failed. I just reversed the order so, new failed chunks get sent to the end of the line. That keeps the older chunk at the beginning of the line.

The inability to sort the columns really hinders the use of Newsbin. At least for someone like me.

It's been in the release notes for pretty much every 6.60 version. Can't sort the download list yet. I assume you're talking about the download list. If it's not the download list then I don't know what you're talking about and need you to clarify.

Clarification: The Posts list.

Is it just me and my installation of B4?

Looks like sorting on status doesn't work. The rest of them do though.

I'll note that search on status doesn't. You're the first one to mention it.

Thanks.

Basically it was going to do what Ctrl-R now does. I just need to remove it. Read posts does the probe.

As to what it does, it downloads and tries to extract meaningful information about the PAR/RAR and any text files. I use it to probe obscured posts.

It seems to have something to do with my computer hardware, software (Windows 10?), or setup. After the second of two restorations of my previous installation of 6.60 Beta 3 and upgrades to Beta 4, I can now sort all of the Post List Column, except the Status Column.

I look forward to the future return of the ability to sort the Post LIst Status column.

closing open group tabs whilst Nb adding files to DL still causing ctd

when using filters in group browsing deleting a text value in the filter box(to remove it) then pressing enter to refresh the list simply returns the text value youve just deleted. This is not the ComboBox drop down.

I thought I would mention a little quirk that I've noticed with this Beta - I don't think it has any significance.

In the larger groups with a couple of thousand posts, a lot of which is spam, I have a minimum size in the filter boxes of 100MB. When I enable the filter everything under 100MB disappears and I can go through the remaining posts and see if I want anything and then delete the posts when I'm finished. When I then disable the filters all the spam re-appears but it is not sorted, all the posts are higgledepiggeldy - no big deal as I'm going to delete them anyway. When I hit control+A to highlight them all for deleting the post list becomes sorted as well as highlighted.

Not sure if this is a known issue but I have a cleanup filter which is set to remove all the leftovers from TV shows but for some reason it's refusing to delete the .par2 files, not sure if there's something obvious I'm missing? I have it set to reject if filename contains .par2?

current progress bar is broken. On quitting and restarting NB and restarting a partially download file, the current progress bar dos'nt catch up with whats already been downloaded.

Yeah. I'll have to think of a fix for this. By default they should be deleting when the sets unrar. Are these for sets that never unrar? The problem is PARS bypass normal filtering.

No these are for sets that unrar fine, I wake up each morning to a nice bunch of extracted TV shows, the NZB's are left in the NZB/loaded folder and in the Incomplete folder everything is deleted except the .par2 files, obviously it's not a big deal, mostly wanted to check I'm not doing something wrong (since the new beta sample files weren't being filtered out but I fixed that already) :)

Well, they should be deleting along with the rars. It's the same process. Are the PARS combined with the rars or listed in different blocks?

Hmm not sure, usually all together, I just get the Nzb from Sickbeard automatically and leave it to send to Newsbin and then Newsbin handles that part, I'm sure they used to be deleted before the latest betas.

I think I disabled it because it was causing problems.

You'll be able to use filters in search based watch lists though (yes I'm working on them today).

test.txt files from the cache directory goes to the Recycle Bin for every download.

Files List tab doesn't seem to be remembering everything.

AutoPAR2.DB3 file goes to Recycle Bin every time Newsbin is shut down

I might delete downloaded.db3 for the files list. It's normal for files to be removed if you move them or delete them on disk.

Thanks for letting me know about the two deleted files. I guess they don't have to be recycled.

Just some observations:

When Numerous posts - Delete all Posts from Poster causes a crash.
Chunks are being sent to recycle bin (this is new).
Auto Shutdown still not working.

I don't think you're using the latest if you still see chunks go to the recycle bin. I could be wrong but, I fixed that already.

Wonder if you're closing the tab before it's had a chance to collect all the posters posts?

It really sounds like you're not running the latest.

The build I'm using is 3788.

Here is another thing - but I can live with it:

Searching the Poster Field yields no results until you click the Caution Icon to clear the search string.

So, you have no filters at all? It's probably just a mis-print and it's saying "Global Filter".

Hi,

I have a "set unrar path" issue that's cropped up for me with B4. I upgraded to B2 from 6.55 after waiting for my download list to clear. No serious problems from memory. Upgraded to B3, then again to B4. I always upgraded with an empty download list just to be safe.

Problem:
If you set an UnRAR path for an NZB, close Newsbin, load Newsbin again, the "Download Path" for that NZB changes to the UnRAR path you set previously and Newsbin starts downloading the NZB files from scratch. Likewise the "assign new Path" function changes the UnRAR path back to the "Download Path"

How to reproduce..
------------------------------
Load an NZB into the download list
Let it download a bit (e.g. grab the first PAR2 and a couple of RARs etc)
Right-click NZB > Assign a new UnRAR path - pick another folder etc.
Right-click NZB > Properties - confirm the UnRAR path is right

Close Newsbin
Start Newsbin up.

In the download list the "Download Path" column is now the UnRAR path you set.
The UnRAR path is at least correctly set still :)
But... Newsbin starts downloading the NZB from the beginning again to the UnRAR path :(

Right-click NZB > Assign a new Path > Change the download path back to the original download location.
Right-click NZB > Properties - the UnRAR path has been changed back to the download location you've just set.

Close Newsbin
Start Newsbin again.

Newsbin finds the previously downloaded RARs and continues on from where it should. :)
But the UnRAR path is back to the download location rather than the UnRAR path of choice. :(
----------------------------------

I did not experience this in B2 or B3 from memory. My memory may not be great, or I may have not noticed.

Should I blow away my Downloads.DB3 or something and let Newsbin re-create it?

Cheers

Are Newsbin's security options disabled in Newsbin 6.60 Beta 4? Or just not working with Newsbin running under Windows 10 Build 9926?

Placing checkmarks in the boxes located beside Lock the Tray Icon", "Lock the Groups", "Lock the Servers", "Lock the Options, and "Lock the Startup" in Newsbin's "Security Options" menu window, does not prevent any of the actions.

FWIW, "Lock the Startup" and ""Lock the Tray Icon"" are all that I need and have used successfully in past versions of Newsbin.

Show Posts Special (no "Red X" Icon):

Since the right-click "Remove from list" has been replaced by the "Red X" Icon (Download List), how do you uncheck a clicked item w/o Icon? I only can delete the item.

I'm not sure what you're asking.

"Remove from Download list" has been removed from the post lists. It's been added back to the downloads list but probably not in your version. If you want to remove something from the download list, select it and then hit the delete key.

Are Newsbin's security options disabled in Newsbin 6.60 Beta 4? Or just not working with Newsbin running under Windows 10 Build 9926?

It's not something I typically use. I haven't jerked with the code though so while it might be broken. I'm not sure why.

Wrote myself a note to look at it.

I was unable to re-produce this. Went into Newsbin's options, set a password then checked all the boxes. Seems to work. Then I unchecked all but the two you mentioned and it continued to work. I'm skeptical that Win10 has anything to do with this.

I hate it when I encounter, seemingly insurmountable, problems like this. They add to my growing paranoia that my home is haunted by an entity that messes with my computers. The world needs a "Ghostbusters" troubleshooting app for Windows.

Thanks Quade.

You might exit Newsbin then delete "GuiItems.db3". It's somewhere in your C:\Users\ folder (might have to search for "hidden and read only"). The password symptoms make me wonder if this file is broken. Newsbin will re-create it when you restart.

[quote="Quade"]I'm not sure what you're asking.

"Remove from Download list" has been removed from the post lists. It's been added back to the downloads list but probably not in your version. If you want to remove something from the download list, select it and then hit the delete key.]

I'm not complaining, but I just find it inconvenient that I once could right-click a tab with a list of Search/Watch posts to undo accidental "Checks" for download. Now, I have to go to the download tab to "X" them from the download list.
