How can I browse through the files one newsgroup at a time.
Whatever I do it seems to sift through all of them.
This is especially troublesome when I try to look for very old files, since any search seems to have a max number of items retrieved, so that filtering that result will be of no use.
or perhaps one can browse one time-peried at a time. That might also work for me

Ideally you'd combine the groups with common topics into a "Topic" under a parent in the groups list and then select that topic on the dropdown next to the search entry. That'll force it to only look in the groups in the specific topic.
1 - Generate a new folder in the groups list from the right click.
2 - Drag or send one or more groups to this topic.
3 - In the search tab select "Search in Groups" and pick this topic.
4 - Do your search. It'll be restricted to looking in these groups.
Alternatively you can actually type the group name into "Search in Groups" but, that seems like too much work.
