How do I killfile users?

Postby rassafratz » Sat Aug 16, 2014 4:11 pm

I'm now running 6.53, and I searched local for posters I want to kill. highlighted all of them and hit shift delete.

In my previous system all this would do is mark said users read, and at least I could ignore them easily enough - but now it doesn't do a damned thing. They disappear from my current screen, but then reappear completely unscathed when I go to a specific news group and SHOW (not download) all headers.

I want to filter out 2 spam posters permanently and forever: "binaries archives" and "vdmembers".

How do I do it?

Right click "Lockout Posts/Poster Lockout" and you need to make sure the filters are enables (first button, second row of buttons). There's a shortcut for it too.

"Shift-Delete" just deletes posts from the currently loaded group.

1 - Right click "Delete all Posts by Poster" will delete them all from on disk storage.

2 - Shift delete only applies to the currently loaded group. If you want to delete them from multiple groups, you should load the multiple groups into a single post listing and delete/"Delete all" from the combines list.

3 - Lockout poster applies to all groups you load.

I would have thought that's pretty much what I did in my initial description above. I did a global search for "(binariesarchive|vdmembers)" using the "from field", and it came up with about 70,000 hits from an assortment of groups.

These are the ones I highlighted and then hit "<shift>delete" and they all disappeared as I expected. :-)
But what I did NOT expect was to see them back again (and green, no less) when I went into one of the specific groups.

Be that as it may, your #1 and #3 suggestions look quite promising, and I'll try them out.

Thanks, Quade!!

How long did you wait before trying to load one of these groups. The deleting of headers runs as a background task and can take some time to complete if you are deleting a lot of headers.
