dropdown lists blank and unpopulated

Technical support and discussion of Newsbin Version 6 series.

dropdown lists blank and unpopulated

Postby tymes » Tue Apr 08, 2014 8:26 pm

After upgrading to the latest 651 a day or 2 ago, My dropdown boxes are now blank... [Min Size] [Max Size] [Age] only list "None".
The [Filters] [Display Age] and [Display Settings] are all OK.

Meanwhile, inside the Filter Properties options, the two [* * Size] dropdowns both only list "None" but [Crosspost] and [Age] are OK.

Previously with 641/642, I only had this problem with my recently manually typed [Filter] dropdown which was always blank and didn't remember. That stopped working a few weeks after I installed it so it did initially work.

Checking the release notes, I've noticed a new option so I've even tried adding [Sizes] to the .nbi:

I've been using Windows 8.1x64 and have just done the 8.1 upgrade a few hours ago. Hmm, Let me try compatibility mode as Win7... nope. Vista didn't work either.

I've now just tried reinstalling 651x32 rather than x64. Nope. I'll go back to 642...

*** Hmm, the previous version download links for 641 642 download the same file, its 642.
*** Also, was 651 released March 2013 or 2014? verify the main download page. http://www.newsbin.com/freetrial.php

Ok, 642 works... except like before for the recent manually typed [Filters] dropdown which never worked.
640 works except again the recently manually typed [Filters] dropdown.
Back with 651, dropdowns are broken again.

Ok... Hmm.. removed DJI registry, removed newsbin directory... fixed!!!... hhmm... restore directory?.. broken again... hmm... remove .nbi/restore DJI registry... still bad, restore .nbi remove Workspace.xml, broken restore .xml remove "guiitems.db3"

*** Ok so end of everything, GuiItems.db3 died for me in 2012 after I registered this thing.

And now my recent filter searches dropdown also works too.

So the takeway is that a corrupt Guiitems.db3 prevents the drop downs from populating? That's good to know.

Yes that, and the 641 version download link is actually 642, and the 2013? release date on the download page or perhaps I've just been out of it for over a year.

Did you want the corrupt file? http://bit.ly/1szr6MH
I think I'll probably be able to re-corrupt a new one again soon considering it was probably some complex grep string.

I'll point Dex here. He handles the installer and website.

Sorry, I've just looked and it says 2014, it was obviously only me and I was indeed just completely out of it.

yet, Dex, still hasn't finished, on http://www.newsbin.com/downloads.php:
are both the same file. so no 6.41.

So Dex is halfway there... Actually I probably wouldn't even have mentioned the whole GuiItems.db3 thing if those other things weren't magically highlighted in red... I could have cleaned the **** not in red or green. Do the same with any of my posts. So ignore this entire message.

Meanwhile, yeah that's it just the 3 things. I've actually just ignored this for a year while others were complaining a 30 history wasn't enough when I had none -- people just obviously need to learn or start using regex... I'd just reuse the same one and |||||| all day long with the x here and there to disable parts until I broke something... not I needed to or actually ever would. using regex you could easily quintuple the history by multi-purposing each line or maybe that is how to break GuiItems.db3.

I'd just like the option to be able to filter not just the subjects by the senders or any other header fields with special directives... aka any posts "From:" hotmail with blah in the "Subject:" or more simply filter all messages {From:}x@yahoo.com

It did say 2013 and I fixed it as soon as you mentioned it. Thanks for letting me know.

Also, I have uploaded the 6.41 installer. Looks like it accidentally got overwritten with 6.42 at some point. Thanks for pointing it out.
