Passworded rar issue

Postby Angelus » Sun Mar 02, 2014 6:17 pm

I am currantly running 6.50 build 3126

I have noticed some websites password protect there rars with long passwords such as "Join bd25.eu - free registration - 7+3%yS2@hj6" that entire thing is the password minus the " Newsbin will not unrar it

and I know it's the correct password because it extracts fine outside of Newsbin.. I wont mention which file it is on the site because thats revealing content

I just thought I'd mention it

If you're using Passwords, you should be using 6.51. There have been significant fixes to password processing. I've specifically tested those passwords and they work for the most part. We should be officially releasing 6.51 tomorrow and it has a fix for another one of their sets.

Once you get the official 6.51 release tomorrow, if you report the sets that won't unrar along with the password, I'll fix it. I'm just adding each odd format as people report them.

I'm starting to get fed up with Usenet due to this RAR-in-RAR problem.
Usually there was several uploads of each release, some with passwords on it, and those without it.
Yesterday I wanted to download a lot of video files, but all of them where RAR-in-RAR, so I decided to get them using Torrent instead (via anonymous VPN).
I'm considering leaving Usenet over this.

For the most part, newsbin can identify and reject them automatically. 6.51 has the most advanced password detector. Nothing is 100% but, I change it as the spammers make changes.

The trick seems to be to download the oldest one.

Download the oldest one, I'll try that when possible.
However what if I want to download a video file, and the RAR-in-RAR is the only one found for 1080p?

Suggestion: Would it be possible to have a "submit password" option to Newsbin, and have it auto try a list of passwords before rejecting a download?

That's already built into 6.51. Any password in the password list is tried against the outer layer Encrypted rars. I believe it tests the inner rar too but, I'll have to verify that.
