Error with 6.42 ver

Postby Eko » Sat Feb 15, 2014 10:04 am

Hello all !

I'm a newbie with Newsbin pro, and i have a little problem with my new version, 6.42.

I've got an error message when a try to download something. The message is :

[13:52:28] ERROR NNTPSocket - NNTP Perform Auth - news.usenetserver.com-The server rejected your login - contact your news service's support department. It's not a Problem with Newsbin : 502 Too many connections.

Is anyone know what to change in my configuration to stop this ?

Thank you very much

It could be one of 3 things.

1 - Someone else has your password and the combined connections are too much. The solution here is to change the password at the server and in Newsbin

2 - You simply have too many connections set in the server options. You need to figure out how many you're allowed to use and use a couple less than that.

3 - You have a shitty internet connection that drops out and you're running max or near maximum connections. In a case like this, I'd run perhaps 1/2 the max allowed connections. Typically you want to run as few connections as gives you full speed.

Hello Quad !

thank you very much for your answer.

Nobody have my password, then i don't think it's solution number 1.

In my serveur options, connexions are set on : 2
I've got 11 servers set, each with 2 connexions, maybe it's not the right thing to do ? I don't know how many connexions i can use... I'm with usenet. (sorry, i'm noob...)

My internet connection is 5 M at this time.

What do you think about thoses informations ?

Thank's

The fact that you have that many servers defined suggest that you are trying to use free servers? If so, then they are notoriously unreliable which could explain the errors.

In terms of the number of connections any particular server allows you would have to look at the server help pages to find out how many they give you.

Do you have an account with usenetserver?
Are all the servers entries going to Usenetserver?

Having a bunch of servers isn't always a good thing, I'd say it mostly isn't a good thing. Normally you want a couple really good servers.

If you tell me more about the servers you have, it that might tell me something. Itimpi is correct in that most free servers are problematic.

In fact, a friend of mine configure it for me a long time ago with an old version of newsbin pro... I haven't seen him for a while...
it's a little bit hard for me by myself...

Yes, i have an account with usenetserver, and "i think" all the server entries going to Usenetserver...
No free servers.

I have those ones :

chicago.usenetserver.com
my.usenetserver.com
news.usenetserver.com
secure.usenetserver.com
east.usenetserver.com
west.usenetserver.com
nntp1.usenetserver.com
nntp2.usenetserver.com
nntp3.usenetserver.com
nntp4.usenetserver.com

it's 10 servers, not 11... i had a double one.

All are on Port 119 except secure on 143.
All are set with 2 connexions and my login and password

I have read Faq pages on usenet internet site, it seems to be 10 connections allowed by my subscription.

I hope my english is correct enought to be understood...
i check some words you tell me in dictionary before answer...

Thank's a lot

That's your problem. It's all the same server for the most part and with 2 connections per server, you're at 22 connections.

I'd probably delete all but: news.usenetserver.com

Then set it to 10 connections.

I must be doing this for too long. I pretty much guessed that all 11 servers were to the same server. It must be tech support ESP or something.

That error sounds like an internal error at the news server. Might want to report it to the server people.

Do downloads still work?

You're paying for access to a server. They provide you with a service. This error seems to be coming from these people. I'm suggesting you contact their tech support and report this error to them so, they can fix it or explain it.
