'Download all headers' and 'Download special' not available

Two questions I would appreciate help with, please.

I have set a filter to filter out a load of OT garbage in a group. On activating the filter, I expected that the posts matching the filter would disappear from the list. Instead they remain listed with a 'no-entry' icon in the left-most column. Is there any way of actually removing these header from the list.

Having read the help file, I next assumed that if I loaded new headers, then any that matched the reject filter would not get loaded, so I deleted all the headers in the group and tried to reload. I can only load the latest headers (incidentally, unwanted headers still get loaded and marked with the 'no-entry' icon). I cannot reload any older headers as both 'Download all headers' and all items in the 'Dowload special' sub-menu are greyed out. Any idea why?

The filter profile is used to hide posts. It doesn't prevent them from being loaded. First button in the second row of button enables the filters. You might need to click it to turn on the filters and hide the matching posts.

The logic behind not preventing the load is that you might want to apply different filters to the same group. Once you enable the filters, you'll be able to select alternate filter profiles. It's the 4th drop down thingy in the second line.
