Newsbin security password is in plain text in GuiItems.db3

Postby Newzer2 » Sun Feb 02, 2014 4:05 pm

Hi all,

I am running Newsbin 6.42. Following advice here regarding security/privacy, I run Newsbin from an TrueCrypt "drive".

I also use a Newsbin security password.

As near as I can tell, all of the Newsbin files reside on the encrypted "drive" and are only accessible when it is mounted,
except for the GuiItems.db3 file.

Opening the GuiItems.db3 with Windows Notepad, I can see my Newsbin Security Password in plain text.

My understanding is that the GuiItems.db3 cannot be moved. Can it be deleted/erased at program startup, or at
shutdown to hide the password?

It seems odd to me that the Security Password is so readily available if one knows where to look.

Any info will be appreciated.

Go Denver!!!????????????????????????
