SlickVPN Reduces Speed By 2/3rds

Postby rockphantom » Tue Dec 31, 2013 1:16 am

Howdy,

I recently signed up for SlickVPN and noticed that my Usenet connections to AW and Newsdemon are throttled to 1/3rd of my max speed, when running the SlickVPN Windows client v0.1.279. I can easily max out my speed when downloading from Usenet when not using the SlickVPN client. Are there any settings I can change in the SlickVPN or Newsbin client to maximize my Usenet connection speed? I'm using Newsbin 6.50 Build 3126.

Thank You!

Any chance you're on DSL? That and PPPoE is a common recipe for speed pain on a vpn. Anything you can do to minimize the gear between you and the Internet is worth trying by way of diagnostics, no wifi, bypass routers... also, it's unlikely but disable any 3rd party network software apart from the client such as antivirus that might be monitoring the connection.

As you've probably already found out from googlez, there are a lot of potential reasons for speed hits with vpn. I would start by stripping as much away as is reasonably possible to try and isolate cause.

Thank you for the information.

I am on TWC Broadband.

I did a speedtest with SlickVPN's client and chose the fastest host in my region of the world.
That helped significantly increase my broadband speeds.
