Version 6.50 Released!

Thanks to everyone for all their help through this latest beta process. This was one of the longer ones, lasting just over 10 months! There was time redirected to the Android version and 6.42 has been running pretty well so there wasn't so much a sense of urgency to push this out but it is time to move on. Quade already has ideas for 6.51 and an Android release on the 6.51 code base will be ready for Alpha testing soon.

The language translations aren't up to snuff yet and we''ll be needling our volunteer translators over the coming weeks to finish things up but I didn't think it was worth holding up the release since such a small percentage of users actually take advantage of the language translations.

Thanks again for the help, we'll probably start a new beta process around the first of the year.

Crashed the first time I shut a group tab but behaved after that until I exited the programme and had to use Task Manager to close it.

Hmm. We are hoping this is an isolated event. Had you been running the prior 6.50 beta's? What version did you upgrade from?

I run every beta as soon as it's released. This has happened with every beta in the last series but not very often - that's what puzzles me.

With the crashes when closing tabs, it seems to be because I tend to close the tab as soon as I've marked the posts as old (delete key) or delete completely (shift+delete) and usually with the larger groups. Todays crash came from a GOG that only has a few text groups in it (about woodworking) and usually would not cause a crash - which is why it surprised me today. I've gotten in to the habit of opening another group tab up and checking the posts before closing the previous group tab.

The issue with having to use Task Manager to close NB down completely has only been happening for about the last 4 or 5 betas.

I'll just keep monitoring it.

Newsbin loses entrys from an loaded NZB, that are older than the storage age.
Can be reproduced by simply loading NZBs (with posts older than your storage age, of course), perform a search for these posts or even just press the "clear search entry" button - now all older posts are missing ...

Also creating a new NZB from a postlist (loaded NZB which i modified while working on my collections) takes a *very* long time, compared to v.6.41. I noticed heavy disk access on the db3 file in /data/SPOOL_V6/Nzbs directory. This may be a symptom or even be the cause of this slowdown. Also while it works on creating the NZB Newsbin starts to create chunks on disk for running downloads, putting even more pressure to the disk.

Is there a way to select all posts from user whilst navigating groups. I know I can download all posts from user but that dosnt give me same flexability. If not could you add such a thing?

This has been the most stable release in recent memory; well done guys. The program has yet to crash on me after about a week of use.

There is an option under the View menu to toggle tab locations between top and bottom.

You can sort on the From field and then select a block of posts from the same sender that way.

In the Import folder there are a lot of older dated COM files. Can or should these deleted?

If it doesn't end in "gz" it can be deleted.
