autopar deletes data without checking successful extraction

Postby CoolStream » Wed Nov 13, 2013 7:41 am

I have discovered another bug similar to my previous report.

This time, autopar was trying to unrar a rar set which had a password. I had given the correct password but for some unknown reason, autopar reported it as being incorrect.

What makes this report similar to my other one is that after autopar had run, it once again treated the rars as having been processed and deleted them all. Once again all I could do was download again. I'm sure that this error and the fact that all data is deleted is worth scrutiny of the autpar process particularly the fact that data is deleted without doing a check that autopar has successfully completed.

What version are you using?

I agree it shouldn't ever delete if the unrar is unsuccessful. I'll have to see if I can reproduce it.

Sorry for the late reply. I'm using 6.50B18 and the correct password was the only password in the RAR passwords window.

That latest version is 6.50RC3 - give that one a try and see if you can recreate the problem. If you can, tell us exactly what you did (i.e. post, password used, etc) so we can try to recreate it. Please PM the info to Quade or use our technical support form.

Yeah, that one doesn't have the latest password stuff in it.

OK Thanks, guys.

These days I tend to have the program permanently open and only get the announcements on a program restart. I think I might have to up my game a bit either do manual MOTD checks or even go back to closing the program when I'm not using it.

UPDATE:
I think it's fair to close this thread since it is about an older version.

Also, I did download the files again with autopar switched off and manual par checked and manually unrared the files with success. I then deleted the par file and reloaded the NZB with autopar turned on (to effectively allow newsbin to detect that all of the rars had been downloaded. The autopar worked as expected and this time, the password was accepted (still the same password as before). This time the process completed resulting in a perfect unrar with the rars being deleted as they should.

I have no idea why it didn't work the first time.

I will update to the latest version and report back as requested if I see anything like this happening again.

Thanks for your input guys!

You can tell it to delete the rars to the Recycle Bin too. That might prevent a re-download if it ever happens again.

True. That's the way I always used to have it set up. I must have overlooked it after I did my first update to v6 and let the program use the new defaults. I actually rediscovered this option after doing the update you recommended.

Now I'm having a problem closing the search panel in the latest version. The options available all seem to being ignored when I select them.

Could that be considered for a future revision? It's a waste of screen space if you aren't using it at the time and confusing when a choice of options appear in the menu.

Quade has said that for technical reasons there has to be at least one 'post list' type tab that has to remain open, and the one that was chosen was the Search tab. Whether that restriction can easily be lifted I am not sure.

Yeah the post tabs, because they're dynamic, need something to anchor too.
