Big BUG : 6.50b18 NOT attaching file summaries (NTFS ADS)
Please fix this, Its the single most valuable feature I use of your amazing product.
You have a vital and essential feature offered in your Options entitled checkbox :
Options -> Options -> Filename Options -> Filename Modifications -> SAVE FILE SUMMARY : Attach file summary Information to the file.
That checkbox feature stopped working in 6.50b18 in 64 bit Windows 7 !
It worked reliably for all file download types in versions such as 6.40b4.1948, and , i believe, 6.42.
"It" being a field you added to existing file description comment field PID_COMMENTS of attached file "SummaryInformation" of NTFS Alternate Data Streams (ADS) file metadata :
http://sedna-soft.de/summary-information-stream/
According to various test tools, whether files are stored on NFTS drive containing Newsbin data areas, or on a seperate NTFS target drive, NOTHING FROM YOU IS SAVED TO THE FILE's metadata area, blank.
I deliberately use very few features of any usenet tool, disable almost every feature, and perform all my own par2, sfv, unzip, unrar and tag fix, and folder sort, and because of this.... both the "DESCRIPT.ION" file generated by your amazing tool is CRITICAL to me, as well as the more reliable attached "summary information". The summary Information you optionally hide, similar to DESCRIPT.ION in Microsoft's NTFS Alternate Data Streams (ADS) , specifically the existing SummaryInformation comment field PID_COMMENTS, also known as "Comments" where I can direct your program to save usenet subject , in case DESCRIPT.ION is damaged or somehow lost. uploader name is critical too, and you preserve that. upload time would be nice too.
True, MOST users, will only enjoy NTFS ADS if booting Windows XP, unless they run 3rd party file browsing tools in Windows 7 or Vista, but the data is still vital for these situations.
Also true, microsoft wants to eliminate it one day entirely perhaps and demote its use, but has no alternative for now.
In fact BOTH NTFS ADS and DESCRIPT.ION are critical to me, or I probably would need to go back to mac OSX to use usenet, which attaches the information in resource forks, or sometimes, the unix equivalent of NTFS ADS (file attributes).
Luckily I can go back a release to your Newsbin 6.42 which does work perfectly in every way, but does not let me ideally prioritize the three usenet servers I use, like your new 6.5 offers.
Because descript.ion file is not reliable (it has spurious renamed file associations in 6.42 at times), and because descript.ion file can be hosed by uploaders uploading a descript.ion file to usenet and me not noticing the logic bomb before accepting download, i rely primarily on NTFS ADS summary file information you invaluably attach to EACH AND EVERY FILE.
THANKS FOR SUCH A CRITICALLY VALUABLE FILE SORTING AID ! And thanks for writing the most enjoyable program I own and run.
I use your attached file data to sort piles of files by uploader, date range, entitled asset, etc. It aids in grouping audio media properly.
For now I will probably revert to 6.42.
THANK YOU THANK YOU, please fix this in 6.5
