Auto Updates/Auto Downloading

Postby Wooba » Tue Oct 08, 2013 8:40 pm

Hello,

I apologize if this has been covered before. I did a search for answers, but I'm still a bit foggy on how this work. I have never setup a filter before

Lately there are certain files that I like to download every week that are deleted by the time I get to check the newsgroups. For this example let's say I'm trying to download "the.news.Oct.8.mkv".
In order to try and snag it before it is removed, I want to have newsbin both update as frequently as I can for that group (it appears 15 minutes is as frequently as I can do it) and to then download that file as soon as it's available.

So in order to have auto updating, I select Automatic Update Modes in the Switches section of the Options. Do I need to have the group in question open for the updates to happen?

Now the filtering. In the group properties I need to select Use Profile and then pick a custom filter. Is that correct?
And if that's correct, I need to create a filter. In the filter if I make a new filter called "News Filter" and I select "Subject Accept" and add the word "News" to it, would that mean that any post that contains the word News in the subject would be added to the download list?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

6.50B16 is probably the best place to start. It has "watch items" that let you do this without messing with the filters.

Here's a discussion of how to do it. 6.50B16 is currently better than 6.42 so, I feel safe suggesting it.

Thank you. I used the watch list feature last night and it's brilliant!
