Repairing RAR's in Newsbin Pro Beta 15

Postby Picard343 » Sat Sep 14, 2013 8:27 pm

Hi, I recently downloaded your newest version of Newsbin Pro and have encountered a little problem. If I download RAR's that are damaged or incomplete, the program doesn't repair them even if it has plenty of the recovery blocks posted with the set. I had no problems in Beta 13 but when I upgraded to Beta 14, the problem started so I reverted back to 13 and everything was fine again. But now upgrading to Beta 15 I have encountered the same problem as in Beta 14, but can't revert back to 13 because it gives me an error message saying cannot open new window or something like that. I haven't touched any of the settings and don't know why this is happening. Any help on this matter would be appreciated as I don't really know what happened between it working fine in 13 and now won't work in 15.

Restart Newsbin and look in the logging tab. Make sure the PAR Dll is actually loading. My guess is that it isn't.

Is this XP? You might need to install some run time libraries if XP doesn't already have them. Might re-install and force "Single Core" too.

I restarted the program and it says "unknown PAR repair Dll version, probably a version conflict" I am running Windows 8 PRO.

On what? An AMD machine? I think your problem is you're missing some DLL's. I'd re-install Newsbin, force single core, and see what happens. If it starts working, I'll get dex to post where you can find the DLL's. If the PAR dll won't load, repair simply won't work.

Win8 should have the proper DLL's already so, it might be something else. This is just the first thing that comes to mind.

I re-installed the program using 32 bit instead of 64 bit and now seams to work ok as the par2repair now says multi-core 1.5. Thanks for your help Quade.

Jim.

Your issue seems different than everyone else. The people who had problems with the one, repair DLL wouldn't even load. In you case you seem to be saying the DLL is loading but, isn't working.

How big is the file you're trying to repair?

On the 64bits version the dll doesn't load, with 32bits it loads but the repair doesn't seems to work

I just made the test again with 32bits version, the repair is working. So my problem is only with 64 bits version

Sounds like you need the proper run time library installed. I believe the current installer installs it. Wonder if it doesn't work because of your sort of odd OS? I'll ask Dex about it. We don't have any windows server versions installed.

B17 reverts to the old TBB which doesn't need this runtime.

For what it's worth, I have a 64 bit installation of Newsbin Pro 6.50B16 running under Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit using an Intel Q6600, and often watch as Newsbin spends a lot of time (minutes) in the processing of many AutoPAR files. Very often (almost always) if I run QuickPar (Even while Newsbin continues to process the PAR files), with only those files that Newsbin has already downloaded and written to disk, I can either verify that the files are complete and correct, or repair those files, in a matter of only a few seconds. As a result, I've disabled the use of AutoPAR hoping that whatever the problem might be with AutoPAR will be fixed with future updates of Newsbin.

I often find myself wishing that Newsbin could hand off the processing of PAR files to QuickPAR.

I have not yet tried working with a 32 bit installation of Newsbin (Is that what leads to a single core installation?) as my computer has 16 GB of RAM, and I'd rather forgo the use of Newsbin's AutoPar functions than have to work will a lesser amount of RAM.
MS Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit I- ASUS P8Z77-V LE; Intel i7-3770K 3.5 GHz; 16.0GB DDR3; 600/20 Mbps cable internet.

Maybe you should try running the single-core version since Quickpar is single core? I've done some back to backs and on my machine Newsbin is faster. Particularly because I cache block scans so, the repair lib only has to scan bad files. QuickPar always has to scan 100% of the files. Newsbin typically just scans the bad ones.

I'll try some more testing.
