Version 6.50 Beta 15 Available...

Postby dexter » Thu Sep 12, 2013 10:40 am

This one has significant improvements over B14. Many of the changes are internal to allow development of an Android version from the same code base. The full list of changes are too numerous to list here but are available on the beta download page.

NOTE: The Watch List Configuration has been migrated into the NBI file after Beta 13. The Beta 14 release had some issues with the migration. Running Beta 15, you may need to reconfigure your watch lists if you are using that feature.

Highlights:
  • AutoPAR reliability improvements
  • Files list no longer has 4000 line limit
  • Fixed issue with bogus server entries causing 100% CPU usage
  • Installer now allows you to force multicore par repair DLL file if you have an AMD machine and multicore isn't being detected.
Many more details and the download link for Beta 15 is on the Newsbin Beta Page.

Great job with B15 Quade, I have downloaded from a few image groups that used to lock up on B14 from the multipart download thing. I no longer have that happen they for the most part automatically get removed from the queue now :). Thanks so much!

*Note* I should add some addinitional info on what I found out later on about that bug. I tried download from 1 servers headers as a test and it still would happen, what it would do is 2000(exactly) would queue up as multipart downloads, these downloads would be two images that are identical and all the parts availble for both but the second one in the multi-part download would never download even though the first one was completed. I think it might have been related to the duplicate checking thing and possibly my diabling of Autorename, and copy of X check boxes. At that point it would lockup the downloads. Sometimes 2000 incomplete posts would be queued up aswell and then lock it up aswell. But this no longer seems to be happening nearly as much maybe only a hundred of so after a whole night of downloading but it doesnt lock up my downloads anymore with B15 :).

I noticed "Watch Topics" folder with a <SPACE> appearing in my Groups and my "Watch List" moved into it. The right mouse click as previously stated did not reference Watch Topics. Also, it seems my Watch list items were not being updated.

I did a search and replace in my NBI Finding "Watch Topics" (<SPACE>) and replacing with "Watch_Topics" (<UNDERSCORE>) and it has reactivated the right-click Watch_Topic menu and repopulates my Watch List items.

Let me know if this is MY patch (unique to me) or a correction going forward.

No problem.

I'm still a little uncertain whether to use "." or "_" when creating search terms because most terms separate with "." but some with "_". I have a couple of watch lists duplicated because of this difference. As you pointed out the " " signifies AND - which is good to know.

Update on watch topics.
I noted above it was mentioned the what appears to be the Old Watch Topics were moved into groups. I had not noticed as it was at the bottom of the screen.

Now to qualify my previous comments

If I try to create a watch in the Watch Topics at the top of the Groups List, and it has the name of an existing watch in the old list, it fails to create, not bring up the options window .

A New criteria, will bring up the options window.

I would like to also bring up a possible bug with loading. After the first few times of using B15 it then took about 30 minutes to load newsbin, I had no chunks in the folder and deleted the list of downloads and logfile to try and diagnose if maybe it was a bug in one of those files. It still took 30 minutes to load. I am unsure as to why but I then downgraded back to B14 and it took literally 3 seconds to load. I am unsure as to if maybe theres a bug in some code on loading or what but I can't think of any other possibilities.

I have been receiving this error message since probably beta 13. It has come up again with beta 15.

"[14:53:24] ERROR Server:NewshostingServer Reports bogus MaxSpool > MaxGroup Numbers :19289021:58555086 - alt.binaries.xxxxxxxxxxx"

Any suggestions as to why this is occurring.

Just completed fresh install of win8.1 rtm on my system, was using win8 prior with same error messages. I did a clean install of beta 15 and of course my data folder is on a separate hard drive partition on another drive. Newsbin is installed on a ssd drive. All my groups are intact, but lost profiles on my filters. Where is the filter settings stored?

Machine is i7-2600 16g ram x64 with one ssd drive and two hard drives, 3T and 1T.

These errors generally occur on the larger a.b. groups. Cache is generally showing 191-200/200 range. It almost appears that the groups infected were ones that I applied filters to. Now I only have one group with filters applied, used to have 2 but deleted the warez group for all the spam overhead coming through.

Finally I prefer to download headers from all the groups that I am in and then I go through the individual groups to pick out my dl. Hopefully this explains how I use Newsbin and hopefully covered everything.

Append: Just started newsbin and got this error again on startup.

[15:27:55] ERROR Server:NewshostingServer Reports bogus MaxSpool > MaxGroup Numbers :439026620:480068559 - alt.binaries.dvdr

No filters applied to this group. There goes my filter idea. Could this be an issue with newshosting itself. Been using them for 10 years without issues up to last few betas. As I mentioned earlier, this is a complete clean install right down to wiping all partitions off of ssd drive.

It has nothing to do with Newsbin, it is the news server resetting article numbers for the group. You now have to reset it in Newsbin too. The procedure is:

1) Go under Options/Setup from within Newsbin
2) Set your Download Age to the number of days since the last time you successfully downloaded headers from this group
3) Click OK to exit the setup screen
4) Go to the Groups List Tab
5) Right-click the group, select Post Storage, then select Use Download Age
6) Right-click the group again and select Download Latest

From here on out updating headers will grab new headers since the last time you checked the group.

I can confirm the new Watch Topics works, today I had some matches :)

Just delete the old Watch Topics group, so you can recreate them in the new :)

Tell me about your PC. One person was able to get around this by installing the 32 bit version instead of the 64. I think it's a DLL problem though and will be looking into it.

Thanx Dexter, so far it seems to be working. Always appreciate the quick response.

Just thought I would bring up another issue that I noticed on my clean install. On my first download, newsbin counter reported approximately 3G of data that was dl. However, when I checked my actual status, I use a freebie called Networx, it showed like only 900 meg dl. Now these figures are only approximate, but it was like one third of what newsbin counter showed.

Header downloads are compressed. So, the actual data Newsbin receives is higher than the total bytes used over the wire.

I have the same error, W 8.0 64 Bit 8GB Ram (Laptop), but i am not sure it is new with B15, because i had problems with AutoPAR before. I had a newsbin crash that was followed by the "'Failed to create empty document" error, so installed the B14 over the B14 that was installed and newsbin worked again. But after downloading some older, incompleted posts i noticed that the repair wasn't working anymore. I deleted the whole program Folder and the autopar db, installed B15 and still have that Problem, but now noticed that error in the log.

Re: Version 6.50 Beta 15 - Lost all files in File L

Postby Bismark » Mon Sep 16, 2013 10:19 am

All Files in the File List are gone.

I updated to Beta 15 and started NB. It looked like it was processing all the files in my file list and the tab indicated the number of files, (about 1200). Then when it was done, there were no files in the file list. I Killed NB and reloaded Beta 14, it came up and all the files are back. Until this is fixed, I really don't want to upgrade. I use the files in the file list.

(I noted the limit of 4,000 files is removed in Beta 15, maybe this bug is related to that change, but in any case, thanks for making this change)

The database tables changed to support the new listing from DB thing so, it's not really a bug. B15 just doesn't read the old file anymore.

I'll think about it some. Should be possible for someone who knows SQL to import the old format into the new.

Old:
Code: Select all
CREATE TABLE FilesTab_V3(
FT_FileName         TEXT PRIMARY KEY,
FT_FilePath         TEXT,
FT_FileSubject      TEXT,
FT_FileFrom         TEXT,
FT_FileGroup      TEXT,
FT_FileSize         INTEGER,
FT_FileType         INTEGER,
FT_FileAdded      INTEGER,
FT_FileIndex      INTEGER
);

New:
Code: Select all
CREATE TABLE FilesTab_V6 (
FT_FileId                       INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT,
FT_Filename                  TEXT COLLATE NOCASE,
FT_Filepath                     TEXT COLLATE NOCASE,
FT_FileSubject                  TEXT COLLATE NOCASE,
FT_FileFrom                  TEXT COLLATE NOCASE,
FT_FileGroup                    TEXT COLLATE NOCASE,
FT_FileSize                  INTEGER,
FT_FileType                  INTEGER,
FT_FileDownloadDate INTEGER
);

It should be possible to import. Just not sure I want to put that into Newsbin proper.

Installed VC 2010 and update it, now i have

[20:12:02] HIGH PAR Pausing: Enabled
[20:12:02] HIGH Par2Repair - Multi-core 1.5

So let's see how this will work out.

If it is working again i really wonder if i just didn't notice that it was broken for so long, because the System is running with the VC 2010 for a good 7-8 month now or did something Change in B14 or so ?

Ok, i am seeing a repair bar now, looks like it is working again, thanks for the help. All looking good again, checking the file, grabbing the pars needed and not jsut all, repairing, unpacking, everything Looks fine.

One Thing that i noticed though is that the par files don't have the regular filename anymore, but they all have some 8 character hex code in the front, is that normal now ?

I've been experiencing crashes since beta 14. I get the error message "Newsbin Pro has stopped working" and that's it. I've turned off the virus scanner but that hasn't helped. The program crashes while downloading about five rar sets consisting of about a thousand files.

The Windows error log shows for beta 14:

Yes, this was a new change in B15 to handle cases where some posters would use the same par2 filenames as their other posts causing Newsbin to get confused.

Followed this through and all was well yesterday. Today, when I started Newsbin, I couldn't even get it to dl. It gave me a mismatch on every group that I monitor. It then just kept repeating the mismatch of every group, over and over. I am in the process of repeating these steps again today, setting options and download age to 1 day, post storage using download age and then downloading latest.

The dl are now coming in, and will keep you posted on whats happening here later today and tomorrow. Now that I set download age to 1 day, hoping to set it back to maybe 5-7 days, but will wait a couple of days to see whats up.

If they renumber the server, you'll probably have to do this fix to every group.

RE: Loss of files in the file list:

Please consider adding a feature that discovers the old database format and creates a new database for the file list. I suspect many of us use the file list files and would not like to lose them. Usually when new software comes out, it has the ability to upgrade a previous version for the users.

Thanks for considering it.

It appears the reset held today, and all worked as it should be. Thanks again to Dexter & Quade for their outstanding service. Cheers gentlemen!

Install the Microsoft Redistributable for x64 systems from the Microsoft site here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=14632

Let us know if this makes it start working.

I ran into this also today, using the multi-core overide for the first time. The linked x64 redistributable appears to have fixed the issue for me also. Oddly, I had two later (2012) versions of it already installed from wsus updates, but I guess this 2010 version has the specific dll required.

I on Win7 x64 with AMD FX-8350 (8 Core-ish :), so not limited to Win 8 I guess.

Thanks,

Good to know. Starting with the next release, the 2010 redistributable dll's will be included in the Newsbin install. They will only go to the Newsbin program files folder, not the system32 folder, so it won't conflict with anything else on your system that might be counting on the newer dll's.
