error code 5

Postby haode » Fri Sep 27, 2013 11:50 pm

I am using Newsbin 6.42 with News Demon.

I am getting the message "unable to get compressed file size for.." it then lists what appear to be multiple locations of spool and storage information and says "code 5."

one message is different and says SIGNATURE and journal.

the console keeps popping up over and over with these errors as I try to download headers. I close the log console, it pops up again.

any idea what is causing this and how I can correct it

thanks for your help.

No idea. In the server options, how about disabling "XFEATURES", restarting Newsbin and trying again. I searched, I don't see a "code 5" in Newsbin.

You could cut and paste some of the messages here as long as they don't show any filenames.

In the options, under "Confirmation Windows" you can disable the error popup. The same data is in the logging tab.

here's an example of the error messages I'm getting:

Someone with exactly the same issue but, a completely different program. I'd say the problem is something you're running on your PC.

Thanks Gang!

It was indeed Space Sniffer and Gladinet not playing nicely together. I shut down Space Sniffer and the problem was resolved. It also seems to have resolved the performance hit issue also.

Turns out, it was the same issue, though with a different program. I was running a disk space analysis tool at the time the error occurred. Once that was closed, problems stopped. Thanks for leading me to the solution.
