unrar on B13

Postby oferlaor » Tue Aug 13, 2013 11:47 am

I downloaded a NZB file.

The download list does not contain the file any longer, but autoPAR/RAR did not go through. The contents apparently got downloaded in full, since my download directory has a full RAR and PAR2 set that seems to be correct.

Did you check the logging tab?

There is no search on that tab and the list there is huge...

It just happened again. The download list was empty this morning although there are many files in the download directory.

IMO, the download failed or the password did not match but it removed it from the list without fully decoding.

Did you look in the failed tab too?

Might be worth re-adding one of the downloads then watching what happens when it completes. If should find the already downloaded files and complete quickly.

Now on B14 and issues are getting even stranger.

NBP says RAR repair is at 0%, it stays that way. Quickpar sees to do the trick, so it looks like something is broken in AutoPAR.

I turned on agressive AutoPAR.

Too much stuff in the logs to find anything relevant (There has to be a search or a filter, or it's useless...).

Ideas?

Turn it back off. It'll probably make things worse.

When you start Newsbin look in the logging tab for mention of the repair DLL. Tell me what it says. Errors loading up the repair DLL = no repair at all. If you want to troubleshoot this, you need to simplify and watch what it's doing. That means pause all the downloads, just let one download run and see what happens in the logs if it fails to repair.

Ok, there were indeed errors there. I think that if there are par/rar dll issues these should be shown in an error
Message (not buried deep in the logs).

Deleted program files\newsbin folder, downloaded b14 again but still getting this error:

[10:34:06] HIGH Unknown PAR Repair Dll version, probably a version conflict

Deleted folder again and reinstalled b13

[10:42:12] HIGH PAR Pausing: Disabled
[10:42:12] HIGH Par2Repair - Multi-core 1.4

Is it possible the 32 bit version of par2repair.dll is corrupt in the b14 release?

Unlikely, everybody would be having this problem. You've probably found the issue on your system, now you need to solve it. Newsbin is looking in the install folder for the dll, try removing the dlls there and do a reinstall, verifying new ones are being installed there.

I suppose it's possible the installer download was corrupt, although unlikely it would install correctly, but you might want to do a fresh download of it. If none of this works, lose any antivirus(I need to make that my sig).

Tried this exact procedure three times today but no luck. Deleted the folder and downloaded the installer again, just to make sure it wasn't a corrupt copy.

A/v is inactive.

Also tried going back to b13 (it works) and also taking the dll that was in b13 and putting it in b14. Same error.

About everyone else. Not sure, since I assume most people have moved to 64bit...

I'd delete all the DLL's in the install folder and re-install. I run 32 bit here

Doesn't leave a lot of possibilities, right? If you delete the dll, still the same? That means you're picking up another copy of the dll somewhere else on the system, and that's the problem. Otherwise it's down to why your system is different. AMD?

Download the single core par2dll here and replace par2Repair.dll in your Newsbin program files folder. Do this while Newsbin is closed.

Can you also upload the multicore version compatible with b14?

That way I can compare what I get by install with that one?

Do you need the 32 or 64 bit version? The single core I put up was 32 bit.

Single core seems to work.

Cleared directory, installed b14, verified that it does not work.

Then closed nbp and placed single core dll and it loaded it fine.

Once a multicore one is up, I will check it.

32 bit multicore par dll is here - rename to par2Repair.dll as the single core and multicore have the same filename.

Something is wrong in the multicore file. I downloaded it and I get:

[07:58:16] HIGH Unknown PAR Repair Dll version, probably a version conflict

Is it possible that it has a dependency or something else that causes it to be incompatible with my system?

tbb.dll has to be in the same folder as the multi-core DLL. Well, the Newsbin install folder.

To get a Multicore, you ought to simply be able to re-install Newsbin. Then if you backup the par dll and the tbb.dll, you'll have your own copy of the multi-core DLL.

Tbb.dll is there. I see that b13 has version 3.0.2010

B14 has 4.1.2013

I tried multicore with the old tdd.dll and bingo - it works!

Btw, b13 failed to repair files that quickpar seems to have no problems with (file naming issues, it looks like). Should b14 improve this?

Gkar reported something like that. I tried his test file with B14 and it worked perfectly for me. So, I'm sort of at a loss as to why you're having problems. I'd probably completely remove the virus scanner and reboot for testing purposes. Something about your setup and Gkars is different than mine which seems to be causing completely different results.

Ok, ran a dependency check.

Seems that the new tdd.dll requires: msvcp100.dll and msvcr100.dll

Both are missing from my system. Gonna try copying them from another computer and see if it runs.

Works perfectly now.

Recommend to run this check on third party libs when they change :)

Looks like this is just an issue on XP and XP-era OS's that have not had the MS redistributable run on them.

Yep. But if this is a dependency, it's something that should be noted.

Setup can detect this pretty easily. Particularly the nullsoft installer.

Well yeah, but the redistributable adds 50% to the size of the installer and XP is on it's way out. I'll consider it.

You don't need the full redistributable, just the two dlls I mentioned. Also, no need to include them - if you see the files missing you can download the redistributable or even just write a user message that its missing and the user can install it on their own.

That was my thinking too - obviously this is a fringe case since it's the first time it's been discovered, and every month going by means less XP out there, and this is only a subset of XP installations. I was thinking instead of chewing up time tweaking the installer, just have a friendly XP USERS READ ME on the download page that says if you have this message in the logging tab on startup, go here to download these and put them there, done.

Two lines in the nullsoft installer and you're all set :) best look for those specific files and issue a warning.

I am actually not running xp, but windows 2003 (I think vista might also have this issue since vc10 runtime is also not pre installed on it).

Also, if autopar is disabled, an error message is probably in order (over a log item).

I talked to Quade about it this morning. I will pop up a message dialog in the installer if it detects any XP-era OS (including Windows 2003) or if it can't reliably detect if the machine is multicore or not (some AMD multicores don't report in a way that the installer can detect them). The message will have a link to the MS redistributable that the user can download and install themselves.

Pretty sure MS won't let is distribute just those two dll's. That's why they have the redistributable package.

Good detective work on your end though.

Actually the redistribution of those files is ok with microsoft, but that's not a good route to go as there are potentially a few variants of the redistributae files (eg., x64).

You can check for their file existence (if you want, I can write the script, nullsoft scripts are pretty easy)
If they are missing - just open the web to the right link to the ms site page where you can download their official installer.
