Version 6.50 Beta 12 Available...

Postby dexter » Fri Jun 21, 2013 12:48 am

Beta 12 has some nice performance improvements for header users as well as some bug fixes.

Summary:
  • Made changes to improve header imports speed. May be slow the first time as Newsbin updates the header database.
  • Header import for any open post list tabs now happens first. Should reduce times when you update headers but can't load them right away.
  • Fixed columns in the server tab
  • Stored searches now resolve properly in the watch lists
  • Fixed issue where Newsbin would try to download headers for watch list items
  • Notification now reports when unrar succeded and if repair fails.
  • Now exits properly on system shutdown
More details and the download link for Beta 12 is on the Newsbin Beta Page.

If you typically use "Aggressive" assembly mode. I'd disable it. I just noticed some issues with it. Files download and seem to repair but, cleanup doesn't happen after the fact.

It's in the autopar options. Normally Newsbin will wait till the retries expire before it assembles incomplete files and tries to repair them. Aggressive mode doesn't wait.

Newsbin 6.50 Beta 12 Build 2874 is disregarding the enabling of the Group Properties option, "Disable AutoPar UnRar for this group - Don't UnRAR RAR files", in that AutoPAR and UnRAR are being run.

How about deleting "GuiItems.db3" file? I suggested it in another topic related to the odometer. I'd like to know if this solves it for you.

Deleted "GuiItems.db3" didn't solve the problem

Its for me no major issue

Why when you have only 1 server set to be the master, if you do a dowload group list from server, does it download from ALL the servers?
I have 2 payg servers that charge for all data, and don't really want the list downloaded from them, however many Mb it is.

Is there anyway round this, disable the servers or why?
EDIT Disabling the PAYG servers downloads only from the main one.

You're talking about a relatively tiny amount of data and a process you probably don't do very often.

As for your question, it's doing that because it's designed to work that way. Master/Slave only relates to header download. A group listing isn't a header download.

OK I wasn't aware of the actual amount of data that was transferred. I asumed it would be in the Mb range.

But as you say not done often.

Have to confirm no odometer. This first appeared in Beta 11. Really didn't get much time with that version but the same thing with Beta 12.

How about deleting "GuiItems.db3" file? I suggested it in another topic related to the odometer. I'd like to know if this solves it for you

This also failed to get it working again.

Downloaded B12 and it looks like the issue with proxy is still there. Let me know if you need additional information.

My original report from B10:
allan_q wrote:Possible issue with Proxy.

There may have been a change with the way proxy is handled. I am using HTTPS proxy with no username and password.

running 6.50b10 build 2776 64-bit under Win7:

Code: Select all
[12:49:37]  DEBUG Proxy Type Set: 3 HOST
[12:49:37]  ERROR Error: SSL Negotiation Failed, Host: HOSTNAME Error: SSL Connection Failed: 1 Error 0 The operation completed successfully.
[12:49:37]  ERROR DG - Connection Failed: HOST Index:1

The same proxy configured under 6.41 build 2123 64-bit works. This is running on the same Win7 system.

Edit: I forgot to add that the server I am connecting to is over an SSL connection over port 443. This is the same between the two versions.

Need a mechanism to move up & down (arrow button ?) priority of the server in the list, since you have changed it into based on priority.

Server order has nothing to do with the priority. You can change the priority from the right click menu though.

Beta 12 seems better at not showing me headers that I've marked as old, downloaded, or deleted, but it's still not perfect. I did set header overlap to 1 as you suggested, but the problem still exists to a smaller extent. If I tell the application not to show me something, it really never should unless I switch away from hide old.

There's another issue that has been bugging me for the past few recent releases: I have 3 servers set up as equals. One provider dropped several groups still carried by the other 2. If I go into a group or a GOG, Newsbin keeps trying to pull headers from the dropped groups from that provider. So I have to keep removing those entries from the download list, which gets annoying after a while. Older versions of Newsbin somehow knew that it couldn't get those headers and wouldn't do this.

Thanks Quade. I also noticed something on the Watch Lists. Initially, I have the following RegEx:
Code: Select all
articles 1[0-9]

After the list was populated, I changed the RegEx in order to get a subset of the results:
Code: Select all
articles 1[5-9]

The change does not remove "articles 10" through "articles 14" from the list when I use Rescan Topic. My workaround is to use Delete Stored Posts before starting the Rescan Topic.

Can the Rescan Topic option force all items currently in that database to go through the RegEx again? Also, can we get a right-click menu option to delete the watch list? It makes it consistent since you already have a Delete Group right-click option.

Nothing removes entries from the watch list except you deleting them.

"Rescan" goes through the headers and adds any matching entry so, if you want to change the RE and get a clean run, I suggest deleting all the existing results and then re-scanning with the new RE. Rescan is additive to the list, it doesn't filter out what you've already collected.

Sorry missed that dropdown list priority, another that i've found is bug in download list display, displaying question mark when a download has finished,i have tried to delete my downloads.db but the issue still remains, sometime the question mark showed at the top of the download list or at the end of the list (bottom).

It's a cosmetic problem I haven't figured out yet. It's unrelated to the downloads.db3. It seems that a notification from the download engine to the GUI is going missing to the delete never happens.

Problem with filters on internet searches.

1) Do a search and apply a filter to results. Everything is OK.

2) Do another search without resetting the filter and the results get filtered automatically. If you reset the filter at this point you'll see the search results unfiltered.

It seams you have to reset the filter to none before it stops filtering subsequent searches. I've not much testing though, dont have unlimited search plan.

Personally I like the idea of filters always working like this.

Once a filter is applied in the Search tab, that filter is always active even for subsequent searches. That's how it works. If you want to do a search without any filters, you have to manually clear any filters you set.

ok thx :)

edit: -might be useful if you and Quade spoke from same hymn sheet. I've requested something like this before and never told this. Would be nice if the filter worked for first search too.

It should work for the first search. I opened Newsbin, set a filter, and performed a search and the filter applied. What are you doing that is giving different results?

just did the same as you but filter didnt apply, had to reapply after search. Subsequent searches are then filtered. btw the option for small files bypassing filter is unticked

Having problems with file sizes showing incorrectly in group listings. E.G jpgs showing in group and DL que as less than 1KB, yet download with much greater size. I have a RAR file downloading at the mo that says 272KB. It should be MB. Am using Astraweb as master server.

PM me some examples. I've seen cases where the server simply lies about the size. Typically it's corruption in the headers from the server.
