Like the new settings for look ahead :) Downloads are flowing better. Ive set retries back to 2 from 10 and I'm not seeing any failed files due to "Ran out of retries" Tested with max connections and long list of small files.

Download status icons are still broken :(

Text on column heading for server Master/Slave says Priority, yet Priority Column says Fill Server.

I'm not seeing anything wrong with the icons. It doesn't include the pars in the calculation of "downloading". Maybe that's what you're seeing.

this what i mean

Image

On NB load or addition of files to the list, files are getting there first chunk downloaded and icon says downloading. The problem is when download moves completely back to 1st file, the rest of the "first chunkers" still show download icon yet have stopped downloading.

BTW is it a PIA to make to Que'd chunks appear with a darker green highlight? Thx

Hmm, that's 100% normal.

I haven't set a chunk color so, I can set it to something else. I'll look into it.

Had a weird thing happen earlier with B11.....

When starting up NB this morning I noticed that my .nbi file had seemed to reset itself. No group list, no server information, window position reset and the file size had reduced dramatically. Basically like it was a fresh installation. Oh well, not a problem, I had a backup from about 2 months ago so I restored it, added in my extra subscriptions since that time and then proceeded to pull my last 30 days headers again - a minor inconvenience. Now when pulling down content everything seems to be going into a folder called 'Placeholder' when I have Drive:\$(GROUP)\ selected as the download location which has never happened before.

Tried a reinstall of B11 over the top and it's still the same. I was thinking of removing the lot, starting again at 6.42, configuring and then upgrading to B11 but I'd rather not if I can get away with it. Any ideas?

Cheers.

In the options menu, there's an option called "Load Backup Configuration on Restart". If you use that, you can restore a fairly current backup of the configuration. I think the problem is the backup NBI you're using is older than some of the new features in the beta.

That's a great option and something I hadn't noticed despite using the application for almost 7 years! I was doing it all manually. Whoopsie.

Unfortunately even going back to the earliest backup still didn't stop it from happening. No worries, I've already rolled back and then upgraded as I suggested above and the pathing is back to normal.

Now If only I could get the tabs back at the top of each bank of windows :) but it doesn't matter that much as I've re-adjusted my layout to cope with it.

Thanks for the advice above.

Cheers.

That is an option on the View menu

I'll just get my coat.....

In my defence, I haven't set up the windows since moving from v4 to v5 but I have no such excuse for not looking through every menu myself. I did trawl every page of the options mind you.

Still, like I said, no excuse.

Cheers.

When I upgraded to 6.50B11 the odometer reading in the lower left corner reset to "0KB Total" and has been stuck there ever since.

First time I've downloaded something since updating to latest beta and server priority didn't work for me for some reason. I applaud it's back, however I'd prefer normal and fill separation with priority rather than the current set-up.

I don't know what this means. If you want to simulate fill and not fill, just use priority 1 and 2.

Well the few files I downloaded came through on priority 3 rather than 1. I noticed I may have had an issue with having multiple servers set on priority 1, so I altered the line-up. Then to check I re-downloaded the earlier files with priority 3 plus all other servers bar a single priority 1 disabled. No problems with priority 1.

In further testing with different files I noticed priority 3 again downloading first, disabling it started priority 2, disabling that started priority 1.

So I'm a little confused, perhaps I've completely missed something?

A main server(s) option and then priority for fills would be better for me at least.

FYI - I went from the last stable version to this beta, so I'm not aware what the situation was with previous betas.

Are you sure you are running B11? In earlier betas the priority system was reversed (higher numbered priority first). In the current B11 it should be lower priority number first.

There is no problem with having multiple servers at the same priority level - they just load share.

If you put your main server(s) at priority 1 and any fill servers at lower priority that should give you what you want

It doesn't matter what priority you set in the servers.

1-2-3

3-4-5

4-5-6

A lower numbered server will be used before an upper numbered one. Having servers with the same priority or all the same priority is also fine.

1,1,1,2 for instance. All the 1's would get used before the #2 gets used. That's essentially "fill" server.

1,1,1,2 and
1,1,1,10

Would be functionally identical.

Yep, B11.

@Quade, I dunno what's amiss at my end but p3 was definitely downloading ahead of p1 or p2. I'll do some re-ordering and take another look tomorrow.

Check the Logging tab for errors. If anything errored out on the higher priority servers, it gets assigned to the next priority.

Started running into this today when trying to DL a post directly from a refreshed group:

[15:09:14] ERROR Resolver: Unable to find Download data - 1

Running 6.5B11 Build: 2854

I don't recall ever seeing this error, where is the data missing from? The server or my system?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

If you're downloading from headers, it'd missing from your PC. If you're downloading from search, it might be a problem contacting our server.

Downloading from stored headers. So are you're saying I have a problem with my locally stored database files for that group? Just tried updating headers again and am now getting a load of these:

[22:33:05] ERROR Unable to Update Data record:

Sounds like my database files for that group are trashed. What's the best way to straighten it out, delete the group and re-download? Or is there a way to recover what's there and then refresh the group?

It does sound like it's damaged. Typically there's no recovery and only a re-download will fix it. A right click "Post Storage/Delete Stored Posts" should clear it and let you re-download.

I'm having trouble with incomplete posts not finishing (even after 2 days) and after manually doing Assemble Incompletes, NewsBin will write the damaged file and then clear the download from the list. Doesn't do any repair. I have AutoPar enabled. Didn't make any changes to the config after upgrading from 6.42.

Any ideas what would cause this? Seems to happen with any post that has complete parts.

Thanks,

Jim

Update: Re-adding the post a couple of times will eventually get it to go. Side note, auto-par is only using a single core (AMD proc, enabled multi-thread on install)

Getting same thing with 9, 10 and 11. Odometer reset does not help.

Hmm...what version of windows are you using?

Edit: That shouldn't matter. I moved the number to the GUIItems.db3 file under "my documents". It suggests it can't save it there.

So, is it counting up while downloading and going back to zero when you restart?

chimmyjim, do you have "Aggressive Mode" turned on? If yes, does it make a difference if you turn it off? For me "Aggressive Mode" does not work anymore if there are chunks missing, NewsBin just doesn't try to repair then.

For the odometer thing, how about exiting Newsbin, searching for "GuiItems.db3" then deleting it and then see if the odometer starts working.
