Version 6.50 Beta 8 Available...

Postby dexter » Tue May 14, 2013 3:40 pm

There was one important fix we felt was worthy of a new beta release since the other planned changes will take awhile longer.

  • Fixed issue where files downloaded from an NZB wouldn't always honor the download path
  • Swapped out fresh new icons in the toolbar and the Options menu. Let us know what you think.
  • Applied a new code signing certificate good into 2015.
The download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page.

Please direct any questions or bug reports as a reply to this thread or through our Technical Support Form.

http://help.newsbin.com/index.php/V600-Tabs-Download#Retry_Download
2.2.1 Retry Download
If a post download stalls for some reason, like if it is incomplete or, there are server connectivity problems. This option tells NewsBin to try to download it again.

That button is not working with nb650B5, nb650B6, nb650B7, nb650B8. I am back with nb650B4 and that button is working perfectly. I am not asking to change the program just get that button working back.

You may have gotten used to something that was actually a bug. Prior to B5, automatic assembly of incomplete posts was broken. When you hit the retry button, it was forcing the assembly.

Maybe you can achieve the same thing you are trying to accomplish by right-clicking the file in the download list then select Assemble Incompletes.

I don't want to force assemble incomplete, just tells NewsBin to try to download it again.

Exactely what is written in the help page: http://help.newsbin.com/index.php/V600-Tabs-Download#Retry_Download
2.2.1 Retry Download

Why is it stalling for you? What messages are in the logging tab? If you are getting error #430 no number of retries is going to download that file.

When I see article is missing, I pause download, activate another news server then hit "Retry Download", all the red in the progress bar disappear and NewsBin try to download it again. With nb650B5, nb650B6, nb650B7, nb650B8 "Retry Download" doesn't do anything. If you want to remove that button and feature that's another thing but it is useful and well explain in the help page I just mention before: This option tells NewsBin to try to download it again.

Why don't you just keep your backup server enabled and set it up to be a fill server. That way it'll only get used if the primary server can't download a part of the post. Then you don't have to do any manual intervention at all.

Are you downloading from NZB's? We did find a problem with retries if you are downloading using NZB files.

Same problem with or without NZB files.

I want to minimize the usage of my bloc account. Is it hard to re-enable the Retry Download button?

The problem is, we can't recreate your issue. The retry button works fine for us. We are able to recreate it when downloading from NZB files but when downloading from Internet Search results or from headers, it seems to work fine.

Thank you for adding the "Windows Shutdown Enabled" directly on the Options menu - much appreciated! Can you change it to simply toggle, leaving the Options menu showing? Currently, either ticking or unticking that causes the Options menu to close. I'd rather see it simply switch from unchecked to checked (or vice versa).

I ended up customising the toolbar and adding that command to it so it can be toggled on/off without using the menu. Would be nice to have it as a icon but I'll take anything over nothing :)

Jaypea - an even slicker solution - something I've wanted since the shutdown option was added. Thanks for the suggestion. Indeed, custom icons would be nice as well.

I, too, like the new icons but with one exception: would it be possible to change the first (left-most) from a floppy to - perhaps - an open folder? Or another icon (.nzb) to indicate loading an .nzb?

I upgraded from 6.42 to 6.50 B8 today and now I can't download from usenetserver with socks4 proxy enabled. I tried with and without SSL option and also tried the new SSL V2 checkbox in advanced settings but it still wouldn't work..

I also tried to setup the proxy as a https proxy but newsbin kept reverting back automatically to the socks4 proxy. so I think its broken. Not sure if this is the case in previous 6.50 beta versions.

I downgraded back 6.42 and everything is OK now.

Can you please have a look at this and please put the proxy button back on the server settings main page. I change proxy servers all the time (Would be nice if we can setup proxy presets and select them from a drop down menu)

Thanks.

PS: I love the new look and all the new features you have added specially the watch feature. Good Job.

Something I've just noticed that has started with this beta.

Open a group(Hide old selected) - right click on a spammer and delete all posts from poster, they all disappear. Click on "Atomic" icon to clear filter box and the spammers posts reappear.

The reason I found it was after clearing spammers posts, I wanted to clear all jpg posts and had this in the filter box - When I clicked the Clear Filter icon the spammers posts reappeared. I experimented and you only have to click the Clear icon without anything in the filter box for the posts to reappear.

6.50 Beta 8 Chunks Filling C: Drive

Postby dougm1 » Fri May 17, 2013 2:39 pm

Downloading a couple of bluray selections and the contents of the Chunks Folder (C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\Newsbin\chunks ) of the new build is overwhelming my 60Gig SSHD C Drive. Low Disk Space Errors are popping up. It not emptying completely of deleted incompletes either. Can I relocate the Chunks Folder? If not, I have to go back to the old build. Also, tab display fields (backgrounds) are stark white. Lastly, View>Show Grid Lines apparently not working: I prefer a grid or shading of some kind for ease of reading.

1 - You can move the entire data folder. After each file downloads, the chunks for that file get cleaned out. Failed files might require some manual clearing though. If you have a bunch of RAM you can actually cache the entire file in RAM. Are the chunks from failed downloads? I'm probably going to have to re-visit the chunk pruning but, it is what it is right now.

2 - If you change the default windows background color, it'll change the background in Newsbin too. People bitched about the gray. Setting the background yourself lets you set whatever shading you want as well.

3 - Grids work fine here. You do have to restart for them to take effect.

Thanks for the quick response.

1) Yes - Chunks were leftovers from manually deleted failed downloads.
2) Yes - People bitch about everything.
3) Yes - I see the grid now that I've restarted; however, it's very, very faint - perhaps a consequence of my choice of Windows backgrounds. Any chance of options for background color?

PS How do I move/redirect the Data Folder?
Got it: Path in config.ini

Moving Data Folder fails using documentation at http://help.newsbin.com/index.php/V600-Advanced#Copying_Newsbin_to_another_computer.
Reverting to 6.42, but thanks for the assistance.

The whole process boils down to:

1 - Copy the data folder to the new location.
2 - Edit the Newsbin.nbi file you use to change the data folder paths.
3 - Double-click the edited NBI file to import it.

There's not much that can fail in that process other than maybe changing the wrong NBI if you have more than one.

Me too I would like to have another background color.
This white is killing my eyes.....
Even for internet I have a script that change the white background !!!!
Please make an option for that (in the color options will be logical).

It is an option.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9Zp8LY1yz4

A windows option.

[COLORS]
UseBackgroundColor=1

If you want Newsbin to set a grey color. Exit Newsbin and add this to the NBI file.

Personally I think changing all of windows to use the proper background color is preferable.

Got it. Successfully move data files - I'll give the new beta another shot. I do indeed have multiple copies of my nbi file for safe keeping. The 'load backup nbi configuration' option (a great feature) was causing me some confusion because you can't import a config.nbi. An import option would be nice (Yes, I know "just double-click on an nbi to import). Also, restoring a config.nbi doesn't restore the tab layout - now THAT feature would be a big plus. I configure Newsbin Old School style and it's a pain to reconfigure the layout if things awry.

Thanks again for the hard work boys.

Back again had a little vacation

Nice icons love them

the fix for the nzb download path works fine

But..........

just discovered an other bug using b8

Download stalls on downloading par2 files

debug logging gives the following:

[06:09:01] DEBUG More than 1 par and all the current files have been processed:
[06:09:01] DEBUG Current files have been processed - ParChunks > nMissing chunks, assemble and lets pars take over:
[06:09:01] DEBUG More than 1 par and all the current files have been processed:
[06:09:01] DEBUG Current files have been processed - ParChunks > nMissing chunks, assemble and lets pars take over:
[06:09:01] DEBUG More than 1 par and all the current files have been processed:

Did some testing and found that this fault is introduced after b5 in b5 it worked fine

It seems there's a one off error in par file handling?
When I download a nzb of binsearch with par files included, the download completes.
But a nfo file which is included in the parset, but not in the nzb will never be repaired?

I hope this is a bit clear.

Exactly, imho the nfo file should be repaired/generated from the available par files.
But this never seems to happen.

When I download 1 extra block manually any use quickpar to regenerate the nfo everything works fine.

People have asked me specifically not to wait for the NFO.

Basically if the rar set is perfect, Newsbin will unrar without repair. If the rar set is damaged, you get a repair and the repair gens the NFO file. If it unrars without repair, it doesn't gen any of the ancillary files. It assumes you'd add them to the download list if you really wanted them.

[AUTORAR]
EarlyDecode=0

If you hand edit the NBI file with wordpad and add this entry (exit Newsbin first). It'll disable the unrar shortcut and should always repair these small text files into existence IF they're mentioned in the PAR files.

I'd backup the NBI file first.

It's on or off. You can set it to 0 or 1 but, if it's not there at all it defaults to 1 meaning "EarlyDecode".

Most of these hidden options just let you change the defaults.
