NB2 Files

Postby Skylark » Fri May 24, 2013 1:51 pm

I usually split large downloads, whether single files or multipart, over several days to keep my downlaod volumes under control.
The NB2 files are handy to monitor whats developing on a video file, but also to sample single rar files containing several small files such as images.
Will this still be possible with the new version. ?
Or will I have to tell Newsbin to assemble incompletes? In which case, can you then resume the download if you want to get the full file ?

I suppose the question is will Newsbin keep a record of the partial download which can be picked up at a later time?

Regards

1 - It doesn't write to the NB2's till the files are done downloading.

2 - If you assemble incompletes, it won't continue the download and will delete the source data.

Do you have a really slow connection? Typically I sample on RAR boundaries so, I let a rar or two download and sample them. You make it sound as if your connection is so slow, even single rar downloads take a long time to download.

If you're only a really slow connection and can't sample on rar boundaries, you might be SOL and want to stick with 6.42.

Thanks Quade

Does this mean that you will have to complete a full downlaod of an individual file -say an rar. ie you cant pause and then complete the downlaod in a later session ?

Nope. It saves the chunks of the partial download off to the data folder. It re-uses the chunks when you restart.

What it means though is that there aren't any NB2's hanging around to sample.

Ok Understood

I think the new watch feature will be be valuable to me, so I'll experiment with the new version and see how I get on. Newsbin is great for me in all other ways.
I dont have a particularly slow connection - its the total monthly download limit that I need to keep an eye on.
