Newsbin taking 25 times longer to startup

Postby coyote2 » Sat Apr 27, 2013 12:42 pm

Today Newsbin started taking about 25 times longer (about 4 minutes) to startup on one of my XP machines. So I upgraded to Version 6.50 Beta 5 Build 2602 (from 6.5 Beta 3, IIRC). No change. Is there something I can try short of un-/re-installing and losing my settings, please?

How much do you have in the download list? If nothing, you might want to click in options "Open Data Folder". Then close Newsbin. Then delete "Downloads.db3". Downloads.db3 contains the wish, failed and download lists. Just be away of it.

In the next 6.50 beta. Newsbin will delete this file automatically when the lists empty.

Now I've tried this (I closed Newsbin and deleted Downloads.db3 once my download list emptied); but it didn't change the really long startup time.

Anything else I might try to avoid losing my settings with an uninstall, please?

Do the same thing, this time rename the "signature.db3" and see what happens. Signature.db3.old or something. You probably don't need a re-install.

Bingo! Startup time normal again; thank you very much, Quade!

I've noticed this too. Is this a bug, or am I just overtaxing my system?

Have you tried any of the thing suggested here already?
