Hit the pause button, add the header downloads, look at the download list, then unpause. Let me know what you see.

How can I increase the cache or something? I have quite a lot of downloads queued up, and within 5-10secs of starting up Newsbin and auto resume downloading, it stops. I believe is something due to the cache because it says 0/200, and I'm not sure how to increase it

I think it's working as it should, headers appear in the download list and show the progress bar, unpause and they download.

I think this beta isn't as slow as 6.4x at adding/retrieving headers, think that's the issue, they seem to be processed much faster. I use headers in small post count groups and it appeared as the headers just weren't showing when they'd actually downloaded, just too quick to give feedback in the download list so you don't get to see how many headers until they pop up in the post list. Pevious to v6.5x I would always see the headers in the download list as they stayed there longer. Larger headers also show correctly in the download list, just never thought to try with Astraweb counting 20% of headers against download quota.

That's what I was hoping to hear. Dex was telling me an interesting stat, in a 6 hour window yesterday only 311 groups out of 2000ish we track got new headers. That suggests many groups are dying out and being consolidated into fewer groups.

This tells me Newsbin isn't able to write the downloaded data out to disk. It fills up the memory buffers then stalls. It suggests there's something wrong with the download path. I'd check if it's even still there. So, the problem isn't the cache but, flushing the cache data out.

The flood of fake posts is what's driving people away, you only have to look at Binsearch to see the flood of fake posts. I think this is the RIAA/MPAA knobheads answer to killing Usenet!!

They're not fake. Not most of them. They just switched to obscure naming.

Maybe wasn't clear enough, the fake posts with proper subjects but contain EXE files with trojans/viruses and are anywhere between 5-50mb in size. I know about the obscure posts to hide the actual contents but the flood of what seem genuine posts but contain malware etc. has sky rocketed in recent months making 'finding' stuff much harder as you have to sift out the fake posts to find what you're looking for.

Yeah.

They haven't really been a problem for me. The spam filters in Newsbin drop them after the first post so, if I need something, I might just add all the hits and wait till one actually starts downloading.

6.50B2-2554 Lost the entire "Downloading Files" list: Had about 1200 files in the "Wish List" and transferred them to "Downloading Files" via Ctrl+Y; after about 5 minutes I clicked the "Pause" button; then I exited Newsbin; about ten minutes later I started Newsbin, and the "Downloading Files" list is empty (and, as expected, the "Wish List" is also empty) SO the maybe 1000 remaining files to be downloaded are POOF! Is there any way to recover the list? ("Save Files List on Exit" is indeed checked, just as it has been since day-one.)

Follow-up: Added some files to the "Wish List" and then exited Newsbin; upon restart the list is EMPTY.

The download paths are correct because It could download some small files and a small chunk (usually around 40MB) before stopping completely. The downloads are on my OS drive C:, so any insights into how to solve this issue would be appreciated. I still have 12GB of free space, and I have restarted my computer a few times and my AV is turned off.

1 - I'd run "procmon" and see what happens when Newsbin tries to write the data out.

2 - If you already have files in the download list, they already have a path so, the actually current download path in the options doesn't apply.

3 - Small files you add after the fact use the download path which might not be the same as the path the files in the download list are using.

I'll have to try it. On exit, it should have saved the new position of the files but, apparently it didn't. Not sure you can recover.

- Display: Report that moving a bunch of files from with to download loses them on restart

Added a trouble ticket item.

Windy, any chance you have another drive to download to, by way of a diagnostic? I don't really consider 12G very much free space for the primary OS drive, I know technically that should be enough, but you're saying you're trying to download a large list, that's not a lot of headroom.

after upgrading to the latest beta cache seems to be much more chaotic, jumping ridiculously up and down. Really uncomfortable.

And, mind you, its not at 100mbit speed but at just 30 mbit. And i used to download to the same drive via old 6.4 version at 100mbit and cache fluctuations were really small. Now cache is larger than in 6.4 but it jumps from 161 to 25 in 5 seconds or so.

Cache works nothing like it did before. I'd suggest keeping it below 1000. 300 might even be optimal. The cache will go down as the file is downloaded and will go back up when the file finishes. It's normal.

Anyone else finding that the "count of all data downloaded" is getting reset each session so now shows the same figure as "data downloaded this session" ?? Not really an issue but it may be a bug.

I'll check out both things.

For the procmon, I'm not seeing anything related to download.

1. I ran it, and after the startup process all it did was this repeatedly (imagine this block repeat), and not attempting to do any other IO stuff relating to my downloads at all:

1 - Select all the downloads and hit the pause button on the download list toolbar.

2 - Restart, all the files should come back paused.

3 - Add a new file to top of the download list. See what happens.

If nothing.

1 - Go into the options and set the download path to "C:\DL\"

2 - Exit and Repeat the above.

You must admit that it's odd that your downloads don't work but, everyone else's seem too. I'm trying to figure out why. Still sounds like a pathing problem.
