I'm not sure you're right about this one Quade. I'm having a similar problem, but I don't have any groups set to auto download files on getting new posts.
What happens is this.... if I add a lot of small files to my download lists (mainly jpg images, but it also happens with pars, sfvs, nfos, etc.) during download a number of these files will download ok, but will also be re-added to the bottom of my download queue. If I move them to the top, it just copies them again. If I have duplicate detection switched off, I can end up with up to 6 copies of some of these smaller files. I've occasionally seen duplication of larger (over 5Mb) files, but not often enough to be certain that it's the same problem. Some stuff does get posted twice after all.
I'm using 6.42RC3 build 2413, but I'm pretty sure this problem existed in the previous beta I was using. I originally thought it was a news server problem, but the same thing happens if I load the files from my wish list. There's one copy in the wish list & I start with one copy in the download list, but as soon as the small stuff starts downloading it copied some (not all, but quite a lot) of them back onto the bottom of the download list.
I'm on 32bit Windows XP, up-to date & have a Giganews Diamond account.
I'm watching this particular phenomenon at the moment. Interestingly, while I get multiple downloads when dupe detection is off, when it's on, they're not being added to either the failed list, or the downloaded list on the second & subsequent attempts. I'm sure I've seen them failed before. Maybe that only happens if I close NBP during the download. I will now try this...
Paused the download, moved all the files that were reloaded on the bottom of the list to the top, closed the program & reopened it.
Everything appeared to download, nothing was added to the failed list, not files we re-added to the bottom of the download list. I see no duplicates in the download folder. I think the duplicates were recognised as already downloaded & simply went away as they came to the top. I'm really not sure what's going on here, but I think I need to get my wish list emptied (it has several thousand items in it at the moment) & do a series of new test from scratch, with a new set of files & a new download folder & record what happens. Might take a while, but I'll get back to you.
