Version 6.42 Release Candidate 2 Available...

A few more bug fixes. These are pretty significant and make Newsbin more resilient to flaky servers. Also fixes issue if you perform searches in "Local" mode of your header spools. It wasn't using the group path variables and everything landed in a folder called "searchtab".

Here is a list of changes for this version:

• Fix for retrieving new records during update of low traffic groups
• Fixed issue where files queued from Local Search results were not honoring all the path variables
• Adjustments to the range scanner logic used during initial pull of headers by download age.
• Addressed issue where Newsbin thought a rar set was good but QuickPAR disagreed.

When deleting posts from a group/gog post list (real delete, not mark post old), if less than a screen's worth of posts will be left to display, RC2 crashes. E.G. there are 70 posts total and 30 can be shown on the screen at a time, RC2 crashes if 40 or more posts are deleted.

Using Win XP 32-bit fully updated.

Same here using Vista.

Highlight a single post or all posts that can be seen in 'pane' and hit 'delete' or 'shift+delete' everything ok.

Highlight all posts in group either manually or with 'ctrl+A' then NB crashes.


It is also crashing if you highlight a few posts and hit 'del' or 'shift+del'

I tried highlighting a single post and hit 'del' and kept hitting 'del' as the highlight went down to the next post and after 5 or 6 goes it crashed again - problem writng to the database???

RC1 fixed my slow header d/l. Now d/ling at 5Mb rather than 100K.
D/ling rc2 now to try it.

Ive had NB delete items from the que(that arent highlighted) along with items i've wanted to delete. So say highlight top ten items and hit del, item 11 will also be deleted. This seams to only happen if the top ten items NB is downloading are very small files like picture files. Ive stared hitting pause then removing items

BTW this will happen for any amount of files, main thing seams to be how fast NB is processing each file.

Just tried this - a group containing 5 posts - not downloading anything - hit the pause button anyway - highlighted all with 'ctrl+A' - hit 'shift+del' - crashed again

Just tried something else on a whim.

right click and 'delete all posts from poster' works fine - so I can empty the group list using this method with several clicks.

Naw sorry, I wasn't clear.

- The crash problem is the real deal.

- I was talking about gkars delete issue which isn't the same thing as the crash problem.

I expect another RC up today with the crash fix.

thx 4 the info, this is not me accidentally selecting a file though. Ive just reproduced this a few times. Build a new que with approx 20 pic files, select maybe 18 of those files (pause or not makes no diff here) and hit del, all files are removed(even seen it remove 4 files below whats shown - BTW thats how many connections im running).

Just tried with one server active using one connection, didn't happen, 2 connections it deleted all files again.

The issue is that selection and actual contents are decoupled and when you delete Newsbin deletes what's currently selected which might not be exactly what you intend. The problem is a fast moving download list. The list is moving under the selection state.

I don't really have a solution at this point.
