What is this blue bar?

Postby mdelig00 » Fri Dec 28, 2012 2:08 am

When I selected to VIEW the posts after a header download I saw this blue bar at the bottom. It very slowly would move itself across the bottom very slowly. Is this telling me that the display page isn't setup for viewing yet until that blue bar is all across the bottom of the screen?

It's showing the progress of the load. If it's real slow, you must be loading up a crapload of data. You might be better off loading the groups a little at a time. You can use the "Month at a time" loader to do that.

If you're loading huge groups and getting near 2 gigs of ram, that might explain the crashing you reported too (well, if this version of windows is 32 bits, 64 bits will do 2 gigs standing on it's head).

Intel 3930k 12 core processor
Asus Sabertooth X79 mainboard
32GB of high speed RAM
Intel 510 SSD drives (All SATA 3)
GTX 580 1.5GB DD5 video ram

This is the fastest computer I could have built at the time and still pretty much is at top of its game. I think I was trying to view ALL posts in a group, which really isn't possible with so much history.

You can install procmon and check out what's happening on the file system.

If it's importing headers "(XXX)" X = numbers, down on the cache line. It won't load at full speed till all the records are imported.

I could always change how many days the post view lists is, right?

Yeah.

I have a large set of groups in a common folder. I can load 60 days worth in about 30 seconds. That represents about 33 TB of files.
