The file list order is saved as part of the processing done when Newsbin exits. The Newsbin task can take quite a while to complete after the GUI disappears so you need to make sure you do not close down or reboot your machine while it i still working as premature killing of the Newsbin task can have this effect.

Another possibility is that the downloads.db3 file in the Newsbin DATA folder has been corrupted. You could try deleting this when Newsbin is closed, and a new clean copy is created at next Newsbin start. You will lose the contents of any download lists if you do this so choose a time when this does not matter.

how as end users are we suppose to know if and when NB has finished with its housekeeping processing?

Surly it makes more sense to only close the gui after Nb has finished with its housekeeping. I wonder how many other problems people have had because of this?

The only way that I know of is to monitor it via Task Manager

I have wished for some time that Quade would add some sort of visual cue that Newsbin is still doing some sort of background processing.. As Newsbin closedown can take minutes on some machines after the GUI disappears I am sure that many users simply close Newsbin and then when the GUI disappears issue a machine level Shutdown command.

There's always a tradeoff. If we leave the GUI up while processing is going on, we get complaints from users saying it takes too long for Newsbin to shut down. That's why we changed it remove the GUI as soon as possible and then clean up in the background. Lots of other applications do this. I've shut Chrome down and seen it still churning away in the task list for up to a minute sometimes. It isn't an unusual approach.

There was an exit dialog that showed a progress bar. Let me see where it went. Newsbin won't exit till it's done so, either there's a problem saving the order, the machine is being shut down before it's done or something else is happening that interrupts the exit process. I think it might be worth it to wipe the downloads.db3. That's a first step when weird things happen with the download list.

NB is saving order, all appears fine except the once. From whats been said I suspect its me quiting NB then rebooting too quickly this morning. Although why would windows close a running task like that?

FYI at the mo im seeing drive I/O from Nb 9 secs after the gui closes.

I understand that some users may find the closing box appearing to make NB run slower. Personally think it would be better to see and know if and when NB has finished and closed.

many thanks :)

I removed it simply because of a change in how things operate in Newsbin. I might be able to add it back. You must have a bunch on the download list for it to take 9 seconds.
