Unraring to proper directories

Postby Summersnow » Wed Nov 28, 2012 12:25 am

I have my directories set for newsbin/newsgroup name

Under each one I have subdirectories to group different items into categories

I used to be able to download to existing directory and ahve it unrar based on file name into the existing directory I downloaded to.

I've messed around since your new version came out and can not duplicate that behavior, but have managed to completely lose several downloads, they dont seem to have unrared to anyplace.

How do I get it to unrar to d:/newsbin/longnewsgroupname/name of existing directory I have it downloading the files to/filename

I can get it to download to the right place but it refuses to unrar to the existing directory I download it to.

If you click Menu -> View -> Files, a tab labeled "Files List:" will appear that shows the disposition of every downloaded file. It has a column named "Download Path:". This is where the download went. I refer to it when "I can't find a download".

I'm just so frustrated with this new version.

Everything was so nice, neat and organized under the old version.

Now nothing unrars where its supposed to or with the correct filenames.

I honestly think someone needs a swift kick in the nutsack for messing with something that wasn't broken to begin with and completely mucking it up.

Kind of like the whole office ribbon bar thing.

Download directory in previous versions could be altered in something like 4 completely different locations in options, not my personal opinion of "neat and organized". Now, you define this in a single location, plus you have a lot more options should you require them.

Download path, in options, has a browse button, which you use to define the basic root directory, set then close that, then hit the Edit button to customize this. There are lots of variables you can use to define locations, such as group name. I'm a little unclear how you previously had files stored in a group folder and then an "existing" folder inside that. Perhaps I'm mis-remembering the way it used to work, but I don't think it was an existing name, it was something that was derived from the post. Maybe I'm wrong, but the upshot now is sure, you can specify a $GROUP variable and follow it with whatever name you want, or another variable. It's quite flexible.

Yes, alt.binaries.foo was changed to a.b.foo, but path length becomes an issue very quickly for people, do you really need that spelled out everywhere?
