Version 6.41 Beta 2 Available...

Postby dexter » Sat Nov 17, 2012 12:11 pm

This version addresses some issues introduced in the first 6.41 release as well as a lingering 6.40 problem:

  • Fixed issue with non-English characters in key information.
  • Fixed issue where Newsbin would report spurious errors when switching between searching and queuing files for download
  • Fixed issue where search results were always marked read.
  • Fixed issue where MOTD would always show up even if it was disabled under Options/Advanced.

The download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page.

If you find any issues, either reply to this post of contact us through the Newsbin Technical Support form.

From my comment on B1

kairk wrote:When loading headers with "Show Posts Special", 6.41b1 shows that posts are being loaded then just sits there, running one core at 100% and using about 500 meg of memory and doesn't show any posts. This happens even when loading a date range that 6.40 2059 shows as having no posts. When loading the same empty date range 6.40 2059 uses 19 meg of ram.

Win XP 32 bit fully updated.

I figured out exactly what is happening. The first time the 'Show Post Special' dialog is displayed for a Group/Gog, the Load Day Range and Use Calendar are enabled, you can either enter the day range or choose dates on the calenders, even though Load All Posts is chosen (black dot in the circle) by default. In previous versions, the Load Day Range and use Calendar were disabled when the dialog is first shown with Load All Posts chosen. After you choose a different method, it works as previous version, the 2 non-chosen methods are disabled and this behavior is kept if you close the dialog and re-open it.

It does revert to the newer (and imo incorrect) behavior if you display the 'Show Post Special" dialog for another group, close it and re-display it for the first group.

What was happening was I was choosing a day range with the calendar but NB was loading all the posts since I didn't notice Load All Posts was active, so the memory usage was high and I wasn't waiting long enough for all the posts to display, I just assumed it was hung.

I'll be fixed in B3. Thanks.

Someone on IRC walked me through what was happening. It's exactly what you're describing.

Does this solve recent file fragmentation? Or is it Supernews or an intermediate server node or DCMA?

I'm not really sure what you mean. If the server can't deliver posts. There's nothing Newsbin can do about it.

How about explaining what you mean in more detail?

Recently there have been a lot of file fragmentation. Unfortunately, I recently D/Led ^.41 B1 (I have beta 2 now).
I noted comments that Giganews had fragmentation as well. I have newsgroups infolders and Show posts special for the recent two days - then select for DL.

I noticed your release note:

Version 6.41 Beta 2 Build 2102, November 13, 2012

- Fixed issue where Newsbin would report spurious errors if you switch between searching and downloading files quickly.

That's why I ask.

My question was the easy way out - I re-D/Led all headers for a fragmented group and the fragmentation was still there - must be internet server, not Newsbin.

Thanks

Yeah, that's unrelated. You're talking about 430 errors caused by the files being removed from the server. It's a server problem and not something Newsbin can fix.

Hi, not sure if this is related to the beta or some corrupted config, but my downloads no longer starts anymore when queued.

[00:22:04] DEBUG - Add to NZB Queue: C:\Users\file1.nzb
[00:22:04] DEBUG - NZB PostList Load Notification Processing: C:\Users\file1.nzb Disposition: 3

I tried pausing and resuming but to no avail. This happened no matter what files I queued. Just a day ago it was working fine... and now the servers just won't even attempt to start connecting.. Any ideas for possible source of the problem?

Can you manually load the nzb file? If so, and you add to the queue, what are the symptoms? Wondering if something is corrupting them. Make sure you clear out your queue too.

Yes I did just that.

Now when it starts, the logging only shows this

[00:41:37] ERROR InterSocket - Error: SSL Negotiation Failed, Host: www.newsbin.com Error: SSL Connection Failed: 6 Error 0 The operation completed successfully.
[00:41:42] HIGH - Aggressive Assembly mode: Enabled
[00:41:42] HIGH - PAR Pausing: Enabled
[00:41:42] HIGH - Par2Repair - Multi-core 1.3

nothing more to actually start the downloading tasks.

If I select the tasks and click on retry/resume, it just shows this
[00:42:37] DEBUG Downloading Files - Duplicate Insert to Download List: somefile.rar
for all the files.

Is there something I can do? A reinstall of the beta didn't work.

In the NZB Options, Make sure "Download Double-Clicked NZB" is checked. Your log message tells me Newsbin is trying to display the NZB, not download it.

I don't download the whole nzb ever, I always open and manually add them to download list (don't want junk files or samples). They are already queued. Any help to further find the cause of the problem is much appreciated.

This has nothing to do with NZB's then. If they won't download:

1 - Newsbin is paused
2 - Server is disabled or can't be connected to.
3 - Server is missing from the servers list.

What do you see in the logging tab?

I don't think Newsbin is paused because it says Running Full Speed at bottom right of the status bar. Servers are present (btw there is a bug in displaying the servers when the downloads were working few days back, it won't show the rows properly) and connectable (tried with sabnzbd) although it now says Disconnected.

I also tried to reinstall B1 but same result. Attempting to bypass filters also doesn't start any download.

I don't know then. Something isn't right with your setup. Maybe it's time to wipe and re-install. All the log messages tell me is that Newsbin isn't even trying to download.

Assuming you have something in your download list, Newsbin isn't even attempting to download it. I still think it has something to do with your server setup.

I have used the build 2102 since it came out, and today went to Post Storage, Purge to Display Age. My computer in essence froze up. I called up the Windows Task Manager, and newsbin was using 99% of my cpu. After a minute or two, the purge was completed and things went back to normal.

I didn't notice this behavior in previous builds.

I still don't think it's my server setup as I have a few, and they have been working ok for a very long time now (till few days ago). How can I backup my settings and then fully uninstall Newsbin, then do a clean install?

It's the settings that I think are screwed up so, backing the settings up and re-storing them probably won't fix the problem.

Make sure if you use "Typical Retention" in the server options that you disable that for all the servers. If the posts are older then typical retention and you have multiple servers, Newsbin will just sit there.

I can't believe I didn't see it till now. So I went ahead to check if I enabled Typical Retention, and suddenly I saw that my main server is unticked. I retick it, and it started downloading again. Finally! I'm surprised that Newsbin didn't mention in the log that there is no main server and also that it did not use my slave/fill servers as backup

This is basically what I thought was wrong in the first place. The connections tab will show the connections. It was probably blank.
