Giganews connections dying

Giganews connections dying

Postby xpantz » Wed Nov 21, 2012 12:47 am

I run 2 servers to Giganews plus Astraweb and Usenet News.

I usually have Astra and Usenet set to "fill".
I usually get 60mb/s + from Giganews.

My connections to Giganews are dying... sitting there saying "Done". They don't seem to cycle.

When I start Newsbin all connections to Giganews start up... speed goes to 60mb/s but the connections stall after a few minutes and speed drops very low. (kilobits... 1 or 2 connections working)

Weird bit: If I change Astraweb or Usenet News to "not fill" then Giganews starts downloading again. Set them back to "fill" and Giganews connections almost stop.

If I use Mimo (Giganews usenet software) I get full speed from Giganews.

Whats going on here?

What version are you using?

I use mostly the same setup though, I leave astra active most of the time and have no issues with stalling.

I'm on the latest newsbin.

I usually don't have astra or usenet news active because I have giganews unlimited... and only use the other accounts when things go missing on giganews.

I might add that most of the time giganews is working fine... just seems to be very strange the way it's stalling now and how it suddenly starts up again when I enable the other servers. Yet giganews is working fine through other software.

I have no problems with newsbin connections to either astra or usenet news... just all my giganews connections sit there saying "done"

Did a complete un/reinstall.

Just put the giganews servers in first and it seemed to be ok
So I put the rest in and it was still working with no funny behaviour when I switched some on or off.

I hope that's back to normal....

I'm also having an issue with Giganews connections dying. A restart of NewsBin usually solves this as a workaround.

CORRECTION: RESTARTING NO LONGER CORRECTS PROBLEM. ONLY SOLUTION FOUND SO FAR IS REVERTING BACK TO 6.34.

In the options under performance options, what happens if you click "Write Downloaded Files with no memory buffering" then restart and do some downloads.

When it stops downloading, look down at the "Cache" line on the status bar. Does it show "0/100"?
