Version 6.41 Beta 1 Available...

It's that time again! We've addressed some issues in 6.40 and now have this 6.41 Beta 1 available for you to try. The purpose of this incremental release is to address problems reported in 6.40 and slip in a few small features that are safe and will not impact the integrity of the 6.40 release.

Here's a summary of what we've done so far:

[*] Now leaves the T attribute off on downloaded files. Was interfering with other software use of this attribute.
[*] Fixed issue where Drag and drop of a .zip file containing NZB files was not working
[*] Reverted download path to work like the last release candidate before the final 6.40. People preferred that method better.
[*] Added the ability hide subscribed groups and to delete groups in the Add Groups Dialog
[*] Created a cache for downloadmarker.db3. Cuts database IO by a factor of 10.

the "Message if the Day" keeps appearing at program start, even though it is switched off in the settings.

When loading headers with "Show Posts Special", 6.41b1 shows that posts are being loaded then just sits there, running one core at 100% and using about 500 meg of memory and doesn't show any posts. This happens even when loading a date range that 6.40 2059 shows as having no posts. When loading the same empty date range 6.40 2059 uses 19 meg of ram.

Win XP 32 bit fully updated.

Yeah, we aren't able to recreate it here. OMG2011, is it still happening? Can you provide some details about your system?

also getting the motd problem. I am also seeing this error everytime i load NB

newsbin appears to be working fine other than this. I can search, download, update groups and so on.

running win 7 64bit

comodo firewall
mse antivirus
running NB in admin mode

tried turning motd on and off

And if you disable firewall and antivirus completely? Make a difference? Basically something is interfering with your communication with the newsbin site from the looks of it, that's typically the go-to cause of this.

The fact you're running as admin might also be elevating the perceived threat level to the antivirus/firewall too.

Yeah, we aren't able to recreate it here. OMG2011, is it still happening? Can you provide some details about your system?

Hm, odd. The problem persists on my system. I tried to switch it on and of a multiple of times (restarting the program in between), but to no avail. System is Window 7 64 Ultimate, Xeon W3690 with 12 GB Ram. NewsBin v6.41B1, build 2101.

Newsbin.nbi: OnShowMotd=0
In the options: "Show MOTD on startup" is switched off.

Do you need any specifics ?

I'm getting the MOTD message on startup regardless of the flag in Options and I'm also getting "ERROR InterSocket - Error: SSL Negotiation Failed, Host: http://www.newsbin.com Error: SSL Connection Failed: 6 Error 0 The operation completed successfully" error message. Also Win7 x64 Ultimate.

The problem I was having with 6.40 crashing appears here too.

It just happened twice while I was watching it update the a.b.multimedia group.

Is there anyway for me to help diagnose the crash?
