Record Counts

Postby magician1962 » Mon Oct 15, 2012 3:57 am

This may end up as a wish, but first, just in case I have missed an option somewhere.

In the Groups list window we have a column showing the number of "New Records"

Is there a way of displaying another column showing the number of , lets call it "Viewable Records" for the group. (which would obviously include "New Records")
i.e. when you open the group, the number of items that will be displayed. I have used this terminology as different users have different settings, so will return different results, but what I am thinking is whatever the user would see.

The problem I am finding is that when you looked in a group, the "New Records" reverts to "0", so you no longer have a clue to what is hidden behind the door, and the only way to find out is open every single one.

Please tell me I have missed an option :)

Several times I have thought about requesting that the "New Records" count remain until the next header download.

For me, the purpose of the counts is to tell me how many new records are waiting for me to see when I load the group up so, waiting till the next update to clear them sort of defeats the purpose.

No problem, I can live with the current behavior.

From my own perspective, I am not really worried that the 'New Records" reverts to "0", its more a case of knowing how many records are going to be in view when I open the group, be it 0 to 1000000+

So, back to my original my question, is the a facility to have an optional count column available? , or should I post a a feature request? ( or can it be moved to that forum as a request)

It's dependent on the display age. It changes dynamically depending on current traffic to the group too. There's no simply number for "how many will show". If you enabled "Auto-Old" so, it set all the posts old after viewing and enable the "Hide Old" filter, then the count of new posts would also be equal to the count of the ones that will show. That assumes you're not double-clicking to load because that adds more and it assumes you're just using "Display Age".

I tried to cover that above :)

"i.e. when you open the group, the number of items that will be displayed. I have used this terminology as different users have different settings, so will return different results, but what I am thinking is whatever the user would see.
"
:)

I am thinking whatever the user will get to see.

That is users "A" has settings hiding old, and they have set many to old, they may see 100

User "B" on the otherhand may hane only those over 50MB, so may only see 10.

Basically its a peek into the group using whatever settings the user has set for that group.
