Which distribution is good these days, been out out Of touch

While it isn't officially supported, we have many users who successfully run NewsBin under Linux with a Windows emulator (Wine is the most popular). This forum exists for you Linux guys to share your experience getting NewsBin running on Linux as well as report any strangeness that we may or may not be able to fix. DThor is the resident expert.

Which distribution is good these days, been out out Of touch

Which distribution is for power users these days I had been out of the loop for quite some time. Five years to be exact, went back to Windows. Now I am curious about the whole house again

It's a bit like ice cream flavours, it's the upside and downside of Linux in general. There are so many distros it comes down to personal taste. Plus, 'power user' is a very subjective term. A real power user just wants a command line, but I'm guessing that's not the goal.

That's still a pretty good reference site to get caught up on the latest distros. I personally still prefer opensuse, but I don't 'push' distros anymore. It's like saying I like my potatoes mashed, not fried. Just plain crappy or buggy releases are worth avoiding, of course, which is why I still like that website.

Thank you both for the suggestions I ended up going with mint and loving it. Despite the fact that I can't use it on a full-time basis. Due to their being no native speech recognition software as Nuance seems to have the market cornered and as far as I know they have no plans for a Linux port which is a real shame.
However, on days were do need to interact with the outside world. It is my operating system of choice
recently reviewed my MSDN subscription and playing around with the RTM build of Windows 8 I personally think in some ways it is better than seven but in other ways. It's almost too tablet centric, but I am trying to avoid metro sorry , Windows 8 style interface and it's not too bad
