Status bar boxes on High DPI screen

Postby blah278 » Fri Aug 17, 2012 5:16 pm

Hello guys =)

Long timer lurker and user of this great piece of code. First time posting, but I feel the need to do it, because over the years I don't see this issue brought up ever, and as such I've lost hope of this being ever corrected in any upcoming changelog.

This issue have been bugging me for years, even before the 6.xx version : Why aren't the boxes in the status bar (the ones inside which are written the "download speed", "speed limit status" "size of download remaining", etc ...), why aren't they SCALLED to the windows DPI setting ? Or at least custom SCALABLE ? Like you can click on the left or right limit, and move it further so as to give more space to the ones you want.

I have a 30 inches screens mounted on an arm. Like many peoples today, I have an IT job and spend 10+ hours at my desk daily. At least. I wear glasses. On the advice given by professional Medical and Egonomic experts, I put my screen further away and I increase the font size on my computer. My eyes are much more happy this way. This works to perfection on large screens, and with every other application I use EXCEPT newsbin.

The end result is that I always see only half of the numbers written in the speed, download size, time remaining, and all the other boxes. Which make them pretty much useless. And I have PLENTY of space left in the middle of the status bar. It's a kilometer long, but empty, outside of those little boxes.

Is there a hope that this is getting fixed or made customable one day ?

Thanks for an otherwise very neat software.

I am running a 30 inch display at 1920 x 1080 and the status bar is spread across the whole window. It appears quite normal and easy readable for me. Also, I'm from the ole dos days also, and must wear glasses to see.

I suspect it's a font size issue. Lowish res with larger font. Just trying to characterize it.

Hey Quade, sorry I was out of town =)

I use 2516x1440. And I do use higher font size, like I said in my original post. I use 200% increased font size in the windows 7 configuration panel. I have add-ons that manage and automatically scale up any webpage I'm browsing. I've been doing it for years. Basically everything is working perfectly on that setup, except Newsbin little bottom boxes.

I'm at your disposition if you need any other info.

Hi there,

Since there wasn't any new post from Quade on the subject, I decided to come back and see what's the latest talk on this matter.

So, do you think this is something that is fixable in the future versions, or that's not a priority ?

To disable DPI virtualization for a single application, right-click the name of the application executable file, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab, and then select the box labeled Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.

I haven't tried this. Wonder what it would do to Newsbin? My display isn't high DPI.

Pretty sure I've solved this. It's a matter of figuring the font with at different DPI settings then changing the box width based on that. Won't be in 6.40. Already in 6.5.
