folders

Postby nickojones » Sat Jun 23, 2012 10:27 am

Prior to 6.4 all reports would have an individual folder wihin the "newsbin download" folder. Now the NZB,par, nfo etc are all dumped into the newsbin download instead of its own folder. What settings do I use to restore the old setup?
thanks

Are you using any of the new pathing variables, like $(GROUP) in your download path? I found that something odd is going on with some smaller support files where they are doing as you describe. It only happened to me while testing the new variables, though. If you are, try with a vanilla path(no variables) and see if you can reproduce. If you can, please indicate how you've set up newsbin to do it the way you like it so we're on the same page. I don't have the breakout behaviour you do normally. At least I think so, if I understand it properly.

Quade does know something's up if it's variable related, though. He's made a note to look at it.

No I did not use any pathing variables. I simply upgraded to 6.4 and it started doing it.

As I asked, if you could explain how you configured things to break out the small files to separate folders...

This will happen if you do not start using the new pathing variables that have been introduced as part of the mot recent beta releases.

I' never done anything since 2010 as far as folders go, not now, not ever.
What settings do i select make it go back to the way it was. Or if you can't, do i just revert to an older version?

You must have done soething at some point as the default settings were to not use folders! However i can understand not remembering the details if it was some time ago.

The new facilities are even more flexible than the old ones, but do require you to specify what you want. You use the new pathing variables as defined in this post. In fact I think even more variables are now available as options than was the case at the time the post was written (as mentioned in the release notes).

It sounds like the op does all his downloading via NZB, in the older versions you could set newsbin to download to folder based on NZB filename, I ran into this issue myself when I upgraded to the recent betas.

You can setup for NZB downloading in two ways see here for details: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=30466#p185711

Whoa, things are in a beta state. My reaction to this thread is 'you shouldn't be automatically installing beta releases for your daily usage unless you're willing to have things break or change'. It is a *beta*, which means things can move, change or generally get under your skin. I strongly recommend he go back to the production release until this gets locked down. Plus, unlike what you said in that other thread, there's no need at any point for anyone to be wiping their nbi file. None of the pathing stuff would cause that.

Hi DThor,

All the responses to this thread so far did not seem to recognize what the op was asking which was why NZB downloading stopped working as it had for years recently, I briefly experienced a similar issue so I responded with a potential solution. It is true that the op seems a bit unhappy with the change so you're probably correct RE going back to a production version as a short term solution.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough in the other thread. I experienced exactly the same issue with $(NZBFILE) pathing not working as Psiho_Delija, no one else suggested a solution to his issue so I posted the results of my testing. I didn't actually suggest anyone wipe their NBI (I'll clarify this further in the other post), I said that to resolve the issue with pathing not working I had to create a new NBI as this was the only way to get pathing to work for me with this new beta, and it did resolve the problem.

Creating a new NBI wasn't the start of the testing, it was a I had $(NZBFILE) pathing working in the previous beta, it stopped working with this one and reconfiguring it in options wasn't producing results after extensive trial and error so lets try a clean install, which ended with pathing working as expected.

Cheers,
Rob
