Profile Transfer XP Pro-32 to Win7-64

Postby newSince » Sun Apr 15, 2012 4:47 am

I need to transfer my complete Newsbin Pro profile from a Windows XP/32-bit PC to a Windows 7/64-bit machine. Newsbin version 6.31.1877 is installed on both. The transfer should include as much as possible including program options, server setup, filters, and the files in my download and wish lists. Please tell me which files to transfer and where to find them.

Thank you.

What you need to copy is covered in the Advanced section of the online User Guide.

Thanks, I did that, but the app data paths were not identical on the two machines. I am also not seeing any of the items in my download list, or wishlist, after eventually completing the data file transfer to the Win7 PC. Any ideas where I could have gone wrong?

If the paths changed, did you edit the the Newsbin configuration (.nbi) file appropriately?

Note also that items in the Download list or Wish list already have their path assigned which can cause problems if you try to transfer existing lists to another machine where the paths are not the same.

I think I misunderstood the user guide, as I did not edit the nbi-file per se, but rather I double-clicked it to open Newsbin once it was transferred to the new PC. The download path was not changed as I kept the same drive letter and directory structure for it. I will spend more time on it tomorrow and edit the nbi-file.

Thanks for your assistance itimpi.

The tree doesn't have to be exactly the same as long as the NBI points to the correct folder.

For example lets say the old folder was

C:\My Documents\Bla Bla\Newsbin.

If you then copy the "Newsbin" Folder to your new computers at:

D:\Newsbin

As long as you change the NBI to reflect the new folder, this will work. Remember to edit it while newsbin isn't running and to make a backup just in case.
