File List Search inconsistent

Postby Bismark » Thu Mar 01, 2012 9:51 pm

I search for files with "jpg" in them and some times it finds them and some times it does not. I have yet to understand why.

Also, how do you make all the searches case insensitive?

I am using the very latest release, build 1832.

All searches are case insensitive

What are you searching with? Internet Search doesn't catalog JPG files. Local search on the proper groups that you've downloaded headers from should show loads of JPG's.

Hi,
I am searching in the list tab for strings in the names of the files downloaded. Most of the time when I enter jpg, it finds all of them, but some times, it finds none. They are clearly there, but search just beeps. It makes no sense to me either.

I could very well be wrong about case sensitivity.

There's a bunch of list tabs. I'm not really getting enough detail to suggest anything.

In the window called file list, there are a number of tabs, including download list, file list, thumb nails. In the file list tab which has the files downloaded, I do the search for jpg. most of the time, it finds them, but some times it just rings and does not find anything.

I can consistently make find work. Wonder what's different between mine and yours? Are you sure there are still JPG's in the list? Is there anything unusual about your search string?

The list is self purging so, I wonder if the files you're searching for have just been deleted?

I just typed "jpg" when I searched.

I get this problem at random, I think. It happens with new files just downloaded. Either it finds them or it does not. I'll try wait for the next time and see if I can discover what the problem is. I'll also restart newsbin and see if it works. It is puzzling.

I think I found it! If the file name has an underscore in it, it does not seem to find anything after the underscore. By underscore I mean "_" I changed the name of a file to 123_test.wmv and it did not find it with a search for test. In some cases, when I just added an underscore, it found it, but not most of the time. Good luck finding this. Hope I helped.
