Alright so I just purchased newsbin and downloaded the latest version and was doing a test download to see if everything was working but I keep getting a lot of errors. Anyone have any idea what this is all about?

It goes on and on like this, almost at 1,000 errors right now.

Looks like it's having trouble with an SSL connection - did you tick the SSL on your server setup, and are you using either port 443 or 563?

Yes I checked the use SSL box and my server supports SSL on port 443 or 563 and my client is using the default right now (which is 563) so everything should work.

Does your server support SSL on the same address as the regular server? This looks to me like there's an SSL problem or that you're using the wrong port and/or address.

Supposedly it uses the same server. Are you actually getting things, i.e. does it actually work and the only problem is these messages?

I admit I find it odd it says error, but then says it completed successfully. You might want to submit a ticket to them and see what they say. I wonder if it's possible they're running a version of SSL that's at odds with Newsbin?

I just added a new server, made the address "News.newshosting.com" and checked "Use SSL". Using the default port. It connected and it asked for a password. I don't have an account so, I can't actually use it. So, this worked for me with no problem.

You might want to look at your virus scanner or firewall, make sure that the SSL port is set to the default which is 563.

I was using an older version of newzbin (5.63 i think?) but I just upgraded to the latest one and now I am having problems. Items download sort of but most things seem to have so many missing blocks that I can't even recover them with quickpar.

Ok well I restarted my computer and I think everything is working now. Been running a download for a little while and I have had one error but that is it and it is downloading things normally again now I think. Here is my complete log now.

So my download "finishes" but it is always missing a ton of parts. In this screenshot it shows that everything is complete but if you go into properties of the download it says:

So as you can see I can't repair something so badly damaged. I just don't understand it because I was using old Newsbin 5.37 and it worked perfectly but now the new one is broken.

It's really starting to sound like something getting between you and the server, as Quade suggested. Disable any and all firewall, antiviral, whatever and see if that gets rid of those messages.

Also, I would try out the non-ssl access just to see if that works or not.

- How about uninstalling whatever firewall and/or virus scanner you currently use. Then reboot and install "Microsoft Security essentials" and then try some downloads.

- The gray progress bars suggests that newsbin has "Assembled Incompletes" the file. In your case, this might be happening too soon and you simply need more retries. If using 6.30 (I recommend it), I'd increase the number of retries to say, 10.

Like D says, I suspect there's something stepping on your connections but, you can make Newsbin try harder with the retry count.

Like I said it isn't my firewall because I was using version 5.37 and it worked fine, the only thing that changed is I updated to version 6.21 and now it doesn't work so it is definitely something with the newsbin software causing the problem. only run Windows firewall and I already have created inbound and outbound exceptions to allow all newsbin traffic.

EDIT: Also I have retries on the setup tab set to the default (40) so that shouldn't be the problem either. Deleted all the files and retrying it now and everything is working fine so far. Also I have installed the 64-bit version but I don't see why that should cause any problems (on windows 7 pro x64).

UPDATE: I set the retries to 0 (unlimited) and let it go and the files downloaded enough that it was able to repair and join the rars. So I am 1 for 3 now

6.30 is the version you should be using. Retries were reworked because of complaints like these. Make sure you reset the retries again when you update.

Ya I upgraded to version 6.30 and ran a new download and I am still getting errors. It seems most files download ok except for 2-3 blocks in almost every file. Here is a screenshot of what my download progress is looking like.

Right click ""Retry Download" and see if the red blocks change to green. Somethings causing your connection to drop out. You can see it in the log messages. Newsbin isn't going to start re-trying till it finishes with all the files that are still downloading in that group.

Those errors don't mean bad files yet. Every file with a red block is sitting on disk as an NB2 file awaiting retry. If you see them all turn gray, that means the retries have been run and Newsbin assembled what it has in hopes the PARS can fix it up.

Yes it looks like it gets a bunch of red pieces and then after all the files have mostly finished downloading it goes back and fixes all the red blocks. Either way it is working now

Maybe you've already done it but, I'd set retries to 5-10. You need more retries because of your messed up connections.
